Hi there!
In order to limit size, extra parts purchase and building time, I chose to go the B-model way for this one.
In Lego's current line-up, the obvious choice for this project is 42227:

The goal is to keep the original model's rather modest list of functions:
- steering
- fake V6 engine
- front live axle
- suspended rear live axle

This is what I had yesterday:

Which is okay, works well and meets the objectives.

Still, I was unhappy with this, so I rebooted the whole thing, adding a new objective; a front suspension (I'm thinking torsion axle).

I think full suspension is kind of mandatory for a true monster truck...
