Zane Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 I got this set today! At last! This a review I did for BZP, but I'll post it here. There's not much new stuff, just my thoughts. Just before I start, just like to point out on the first and second pages of each instructions, there is an inventory list! Never seen this used before...The wall The wall comes with Vladek and a semi-elite Shadow Knight, which has a silver helmet and normal armour. It's a pretty good set, with a mini dock. It can turn the tower like on last year's Talonjay wall. The little boat is nice in my opinion. A chain or something to tie it up with would have been good though. The doors open from inside, which isn't helpful for an ambush... The lava-dropping mechanism is okay, and doesn't drop all the lave rocks as much as I expected. :D The wall is a neat little add on to the Dark Fortress I expect, and the playability of it is good too. 9.1/10 - A cool set with a lot of playability and features The Barge The barge is a lot longer than on the packaging, as is the Battle Wagon. The ship is nice, it's no Durmstrang, but it's nice. There's a surprising amount of space in the ship. The catapult looks better than the one on Hawko's back, and the projectile (which you get three of) is less likely to be lost. I'd have like it to spin around for better aiming, but that's a modification for later. Also, the drawbridge sometimes catches on the two spikey things, making them ping off....ah well. A good set, perhaps not worth it on it's own, but it's great with the wall. It's also good to have if you thought the good-guys weaponry at the fortress was a little....basic. 8.5/10 - Perhaps just losing marks for looks and the disadvantages of the catapult. Overall 9.5/10 It's a good set for anyone who wants neat parts or just a decent set. With the price, it's one of the best value sets of the year! So there! Quote
tindwcel Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 I would imagine you can buy them separatly or as a pack like sets 8799 (Knights Castle wall) and 8800 (Vladeck's siege engine). That's the first thing I thought of soon as I saw this. Second was "Now I know what I'll be getting for christmas" :). Last years combo was well priced so I'd expect this one to be too. Having only seen the pictures, the Castle-thing looks pretty good, but the Boat-thing looks just a little bland. Quote
Norro Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 You also get a good dozen LARGE plates in this color in Vladek's Dark Fortress, and a couple smaller ones in Scorpion Prison Cage. It reminds me of wet sand. I'm using them in my new MOC as street components. --Coming Soon-- God Bless, Nathan Quote
Norro Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 I don't get this KK stuff - the sets seem ok - though they're not even close to good ol' castle themes. What I don't get is why there's only those 4 good knights and a bad guy.... Where's the great army - the roaring hordes that throw themselves into battle.... Here we only get those knights in pantsy coloured armors climbing and sneaking around a bad guy in a black armor - kinda geeky. KimT I ask this every day... God Bless, Nathan Quote

But both sets seem to contain good bricks.KimT There is a great army-dont rely on box art. ;) In the comic in the manual of King's Siege Tower, you see a LOT of Shadow Knights. Not sneaking. And if they were sneaking, then still. They may also be simple henchmen-Vladek got his magic, right? Quote
Evil Willy Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 Thank you for all this information..But I dont think I will get one, and where I am they recieve things three months after release so :P Well to top it off this is my 100th post so I am now a Citizen! Quote
Dragon King Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 Thanks xwingyoda :-D I think i wll get a couple of the fortresses and a 1or 2 boats :oD Quote
Graynar Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 I got those two sets for Christmas and I must say-they were good for pieces! The boat came with tons of usable pieces and several <insert that tiresome argument> ones(of course). The fort which was worse in my opinion, though it went well with Valdek's dark fortress. Too bad they don't connect like old LEGO castle sets. Oh well, lets hope KK3 turns out better than KK2. ;) Quote
Khorne Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 (...)Oh well, lets hope KK3 turns out better than KK2. ;) I would still call it KK2. KK1 was about King Leo and KK2 is about Morcia. To me there's no KK3. ;) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 26, 2005 Governor Posted December 26, 2005 * The overall design is really nice, simple but effective. This is what I don't like about castle sets 1996 onwards... How big bulky structures sit upon things that they look like they could crush. Or this! How the structure on top looks so flimsy it could topple over... Quote
