18923c01 ("truck base") alternative wheel holders

My boy essentially loves the heck out of turning pretty much everything into a monster truck.

The motorbike transporter set (60491 )is one of his favourites. 
I've added bigger wheels with technic a few ways previously, but looking at this part, the wheel holders are a snap on piece.

Are there ANY alternative wheel holders for this base? Something that'll take a technic axle would be utterly Ideal. Some temptation to buy the full truck base part and get creative with drill/printer but.. if there's a "proper" alternative, first.

18923c01 is the part in the set, there's a few alternatives, all with the grey snap on wheel holders that is clearly a separate piece.

I don't think there are any alternatives. These compound bases are, after all, pretty much only found in 4+ sets. I also think they're glued at the top instead and not just being fixated with snap tabs.
