PossumPatrol Posted yesterday at 03:24 PM Posted yesterday at 03:24 PM Pippin Reed is busy running the camera, but she might regret letting Harry Cane fly her beloved Island Hopper! I've wanted to build a modernized version of one of my favorite childhood sets, 5935 Island Hopper, for a while. I thought it would look better on a display stand, and the display stand eventually grew into a little diorama. Quote
Slegengr Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Looking good! Nice modern build of one of my favorite childhood sets from a beloved theme! (albeit Dino Island is easily my least-favorite sub-theme, at least it produced the Island Hopper) The engines look great, the curved slopes help out a lot on the shaping of the wings, the sideways windscreen works pretty well, the shaping of the nose works pretty well. I like the inclusion of the indicator lights and stabilizing cable/strike protector/radio antenna from back of cockpit to tip of tail rudder. Where are the green accents? I assume it was an intentional design choice to only use red, white, and gray for colors on the airplane, but it seems to be missing something to be true to the original without a few green accents. Since this seems to be a flying boat, I personally liked how the original had a flat nose top rather than curved, though I do think you did a decent job making a convincing curved nose for this scale. Nice to include that steamboat as just part of the display base! It seems deserving of its own feature some time. Quote

The green accents always felt out of place to me, so I decided to omit them. The boat just seemed to fit the Adventurers theme. It has a removable bottom so it can depict either the full hull or a waterline model. Quote

I figured the omission of the green accents was intentional even if it counters my personal preference... Oh, I like that boat even more seeing that it has a removable hull for the full hull out-of-water instead of just the waterline version! The color choices are great for the ship and the piece usage for the propellers and (functional?) rudder are great at this scale. Also, the curved red ventilation tube really adds a lot in this view, in my opinion. Nice to see builds from such a great theme, Adventurers. Quote
Feuer Zug Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Quite the low level pass. The boat and airplane are well done. I like the train front turned on its side for the cockpit windows. Quote
