Auroralampinen Posted May 14 Posted May 14 (edited) Hello it's again the time when i strike back with a new model:). Let's get the drums playing:). This time i will show possibly the first technic builded Amphibious Car:). And since the introduction for my model line up’s the Rusty Riders(My car model’s line up) didn't have any models yet. So this is the first Rusty Riders line up model and a little nice break from all “cool” Mechatech models. Because currently the car nerds have been left behind. Because I had soo much fun time creating Mechatech models. But now the car nerds gets something cool as well:). Piece count, 1716pcs Functions:). 3+R Gearbox. Rotating propellers connected to the rear differential with a gearbox:). Opening doors. HOG front wheel steering. RWD with V6. Opening rear bonnet. Opening frunk. This model was heavily inspired by the 1960s Amphicar:). Functions video:). Functions in picture format:). 1st gear. 2nd gear Third gear. Reverse gear. Propellers switch. Off position. On position. Door hinge. Looks:). The engine pistons are nicely exposed so you can observe the gearbox speeds easily:). Underside view:). Interior:). Rusty Riders Amphibious Car next to the Mechatech Mechadozer:). Free instructions:). https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-260696/Auroralampinen/rusty-riders-amphibious-car/#details If you made it this far, have a nice May and summer:). As a little easter egg. This model has my first speed gearbox design. I created this design in 2020 or 2021 for one of my youngster year models. But in this model it has been improved with new gear elements:). Auroralampinen Posted May 14 Author Posted May 14 And yes, this my second biggest car model. My biggest car model is still the Countach:). Quote
Auroralampinen Posted May 14 Author Posted May 14 (edited) If you already didn't know it. Yes, this model doesn't float. But if you want to make a lego titanic movie using a Amphibious Car. Then this model is really great for you:). Here is technical details for you:). In the real Amphibious Cars the propellers don't spin with the rear wheels. The propellers and rear wheels have separate drivetrains and gearboxes. But since this model is a lego model. I decided to use a "legofied" solution and the propellers spin with the rear wheels. When you switch the lever in the cabin. Because this way it's way more fun and it's really fun to see propellers spin when you move the model. Plus some offical lego technic builds, like hovercrafts, planes, ships. Does use pair of hidden wheels to spin blades and propellors. But if you are diehard technical nerdy person. The Rusty Riders Amphibious Car doesn't use realistic propellor setup. But a "legofied" solution:). Little building secrets/behind the scenes stuff for you:). When i started to create the Rusty Riders Amphibious Car. I started with the rear axle and the mechanism for the propellers. After that i started creating the gearbox and i decided to put it on the front and after that i builded the front axle around it:). Edited May 14 by Auroralampinen Quote
Auroralampinen Posted May 14 Author Posted May 14 If you are curious why the engine hood opens sideways. Well, here is the answer:). In real amphicar the engine hood open sideways which is really fun and unique idea. So i decided to replicate it to my model:). And yes, i love the wheeler dealers episode where they did fix one of these amphicar's. I remember watching that when i was a little kid and i thought that was the coolest thing ever that car can go in the water and work as an boat eventhought the steering was poor:). Quote
Auroralampinen Posted May 15 Author Posted May 15 Thanks to sariel's gear calculator here are the gearbox gear ratios:). 1st gear, 1:1.666 2nd gear, 1:1 3rd gear, 1.666:1 Reverse gear, 1:2.5 Quote
Auroralampinen Posted May 15 Author Posted May 15 Ok, im really amazed that my release schedule is so concictent for now. 2 months ago, March 25 i released the Mechatech Mechadozer. February 15 i revealed the Mechatech Mechavator. January 2 i revealed the Soapbox collection Dump Truck. I have no clue how i have been so concictent. But im happy with this and i do moc building without pressure and when im in the mood of building new moc and when im in the mood i finish the moc usually under 5 days. The Rusty Riders Amphibious Car was finished around in 4 days. Plus 3 days for the instructions:). And yes, i do moc building for fun and i will not pressure my self over working. I do my work passionately with in my limits and building skills and im really happy with my models(yes, there are few model's which are not that great. But they still work and im happy that at least i tryed and experienced new things along the way:).). Yes, it would be nice to have little bit more followers. But i have never wanted to be a famous person. I like to be humble and have a lot of fun when im building a new model:). Quote
