Even stranger since they brought back the Bullseye mold, so you'd think they'd bring back Rex or Hamm's molds. Rex was even in the TS4 sets. 

The lack of Buzz is the most odd part about all this. Most movie reports have said that Jessie and Buzz are the two main leads of the movie, with Woody taking a backseat. Something I think Disney pushed since TS4 was criticized for the lack of emphasis on Jessie and especially Buzz, plus all the Lightyear rebranding backlash. Disney/Pixar seemed to realize that their most popular and profitable character, Buzz, needs a massive overhaul since the public isn't liking what's been done to him. Wondering if the fact that all the Lightyear sets didn't sell at all is why Lego is avoiding Buzz now for TS5 sets. Maybe they think the failure of those sets was more on the character than the actual movie.

Agreed wholeheartedly. I think I read once that the top TS characters are Buzz, Woody, Hamm, Rex, so it's surprising, but then, Rex is my favorite, and he gets regulated to baby and toddler stuff.

It is odd they went for the alien over Buzz. I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the brickbuilt characters but you’d think they’d have had Buzz in there too as well. 

With so many licences themes getting large 18+ sets (SpongeBob/POTC/LotR etc). I’m surprised Toy Story didn’t get one at all. Like for the 30th Anniversary they could have done Andy’s room or maybe a Pizza Planet Truck or something complete with all the characters. I don’t think the sets we’ve got are bad but it just seems like such a missed opportunity given what other themes have got. Even something like a Speed Champions Pizza Planet truck with Woody and Buzz would have been cool (I know the scale wouldn’t make sense but still).

A Pizza Planet Truck would be such a winner of a set, especially if it came with at least Buzz and Woody (if not the whole cast of toys). The one from 2010 really is the quintessential Lego Toy Story set. I wonder if it’s a mandate on designers to avoid these ideas entirely in favour of ‘display friendly’ builds instead. They miss the heart and soul of what makes Lego sets so appealing IMO.

I usually avoid 4+ sets but I think I’ll pick up that Celebration Train set now, knowing this is all we’re getting for Toy Story this year. I’m glad to see Bullseye coming back though.

@JeanGreyForever Lego interpreting poor sales of the Lightyear sets as indicative of disinterest in Buzz Lightyear himself would be hilarious
