Grover Posted February 15 Posted February 15 This is not my build or my design, but rather @ZCerberus. The original is here. I wanted to try and recreate the gatehouse so that we in Avalonia could have an iconic place that is part of canon to take pictures and help tie things together. I tried to stay as true to the original as I could, given the pictures I did have, although I did modify the river significantly given that @ZCerberus said he was not pleased with the way it turned out in the original. I haven't finished all the details on the top yet, but the back of the build can be seen in the Book IV - Chapter 1, Prelude 1 thread. The lighting here isn't the best, but I had to take pictures where it was in order to keep the story going, but I will be rebuilding part of this to make it more portable and hopefully transfer it to its own piece of plywood so I can get pictures in better light. I hope you enjoy nonetheless! As many past and present Avalonians as I could muster: Spoiler I took tons of pictures and none of them were in focus until.... I included Bob. Yes, that Bob. Then the first shot was in focus. I'm afraid he's a good luck charm now, so, without further ado, I give you the Avalonians... with Bob the unemployed Avalonian plumber. Quote
Henjin_Quilones Posted February 17 Posted February 17 It’s unmistakably ZC’s style, but it still looks great all these years later. The updated water looks nice, and of course having all those great-looking figs adds something to it, especially Bob. I love Bob. Throw one of those red pirate stocking cap/bandana head coverings on him and he wouldn’t look too out of place, honestly. Quote

The only thing I would see changed would be to make the tree on the interior side (not shown here, but seen in your prelude post) somewhat larger after all these years of growth. Quote

The water took a while to texture properly, but I was happy how it turned out. And Bob... ah, well, we have not seen the last of Bob! And, as you note, the turnover in Avalonia is a lot less than Varlyrio... The interior tree was kind of funny. I had run out of time after messing with the lighting so long that I just grabbed a tree from the Zelda set and plunked it down. I'm not sure standing on a rock in the middle of a raging river is 'employed', but I'm sure Bob will do his best to find odd jobs around Avalonia this Book! Thanks for your comments. I did my best with the lighting and photo editing, so I'm glad it's not horrid looking. Hopefully I'll get it moved to its own piece of plywood and can get an outdoor shot at some point. Quote
