Ido Posted January 2 Posted January 2 I've created a pirate sloop for my Pirates diorama. It was a very fun and challenging project. here are some pictures of it: Album Enjoy! Quote

GeoBrick Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Beautiful creation. The entrance to the cabin, the stern wall and the lines of the bow must be my favourite features here. Quote
Franco Clarke Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Perfect little pirate ship there, scales much better with the port building than the larger official sets would. I like the texture you've achieved with the sails, how'd you achieve that? Quote

Indeed, it scales much better, I used to have official sets there but they dwarfed the rest of the diorama and blocked it from view. As for the sails, I cut them from a canvas used for painting (Not the ideal material to be honest, because it can be ruined easily by water. Apparently there's a canvas fabric which is more fitting). I used simple scissors. I drew the vertical lines with a pencil, then painted them with a simple light brown solid oil pastel color. I didn't press hard against the canvas, I wanted the color to be more off white-ish than brown. The little holes for the rigging were done with a needle and then I enlarged them using a toothpick. LMK if you have any more questions :) Quote
Franco Clarke Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Thank you for the summary, that sounds pretty straight forward. The brown gives it a nice weathered feel, similar to the sails in the flagship. Quote
Papaladin Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Beautiful sloop ! I love seeing these "smaller" builds, packed with a lot of details and cool techniques (for the stern back wall attachment for example!) . Gives me a lot of ideas to improve my small ship, that is still based on the building techniques from 25 years ago :D Thanks for all the pictures and the info for the sails aswell ! Quote

Velika314 Posted January 28 Posted January 28 You should post this to BDP and see if it wins! I would vote for it. We need more small sets on there. Quote
