Daniel G Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 61b Hello, I'm pleased to show my new british frigate. I call it "HMS Active". It is a 30-gun ship. I was inspirated of the Patrick O'Brian Romans to build this ship. More pictures on Brickshelf Greetings Daniel G Quote
Captain K. Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Hello, this is a very nice ship! In good colors, i like it. Great job, Daniel! Capt. K. Quote
El Bucanero Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 That's looking great Daniel, TLC could learn something from you! Few suggestions though: 1. The masts could use a litte work, the main mast should be higher than the fore mast and perhaps it would look nice when moved a bit backwards. I'd suggest you add an extra small sail on the top mast. 2. The Gun ports, they should be offset. It looks nicer, and it is more realistic. On real ships guns were positioned offset for a better dividing of the weight of the guns. Like on this pretty boat: That aside, I think you made a mighty fine ship! Quote
Gen. Knowledge Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Hi Daniel, Very nice ship to add to your already beautiful fleet. I like them all. Great job mate! Tony Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 A great ship and very well made. My only concern is that the bow seems a bit low, I think it would look a bit better if it was raised up slightly. Quote
Asuka Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 A majestic looking ship in a beautiful and clear design, very nice indeed. I think that Mr. Tiber´s suggestion about these offset gun ports could really add to it´s overall appearance, though. Quote
Admiral Bejaune Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 I like the color scheme. But I have two suggestions. Add tumblehome and as said before off set the gunports. It looks good though I like it. Its built more like a small ship of the line rather than a frigate, but the number of cannon rate a ship, so I know why you call it a frigate. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted August 26, 2008 Governor Posted August 26, 2008 This is just what we need! For a time there all we saw were ship MOCs and then they almost disappered. Very few ship MOCs whatsoever! I think this one is worthy of frontpageness and perhaps newsletterness also! Quote
Daniel G Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 Hello, thanks for your praises and cricticsm. @ Mr TiberThe Gun ports, they should be offset. It looks nicer, and it is more realistic. On real ships guns were positioned offset for a better dividing of the weight of the guns. Yes. I see it also now. It looks nicer. @ HMS243why you call it a frigate. Well, this is a light frigate.I arrange this myself. Here I think one have a lot of possibilities. Greetings Daniel Quote
Norro Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Very impressive indeed. This has the imposing feel of all great MOCs, all the more so since it is a giant weapon of war. Some lovely details, but I was more taken with how well the model as a whole presented itself. A nice symetry and a well planed scale... God Bless, Nathan Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Yes, I agree with Norro above. The overall feel to this creation is great. Fantastic job! Love all the cannon portholes. Quote
Admiral Bejaune Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 (edited) Hello, thanks for your praises and cricticsm. Yes. I see it also now. It looks nicer. Well, this is a light frigate.I arrange this myself. Here I think one have a lot of possibilities. Greetings Daniel I understand that this is a frigate and you arranged it yourself. I am just saying historically, frigates have the majority of the guns on a single gundeck, and some on the quarter deck, depending on how large of a frigate the ship is. And frigates for the most part where flushed decked ships. Here is a link to a non lego model that shows you what I am talking about. http://www.modelships.de/Verkaufte_Schiffe/Diana_1/fg3.jpg With all that said I still really like the design of the ship, And it is well built. -T Edited August 26, 2008 by HMS243 Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted August 27, 2008 Governor Posted August 27, 2008 Well, this is a light frigate. Really, how much does it weigh? I arrange this myself. Here I think one have a lot of possibilities. So what do you think you might do to your frigate now you've got some feedback? Quote
Daniel G Posted August 28, 2008 Author Posted August 28, 2008 So what do you think you might do to your frigate now you've got some feedback? I was read on the Bolitho & Co website there were ships with this design in the Napoleon Wars, but not much. Therefore I made the decision. Otherwise I know, which mostly gave it the ships, which "HMS243" described. Quote
Capn Frank Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 This ship is like a BSB on steroids! The stern is a little square, but i really like the design of it. Is that B's British flag is see, or did you make the same flag on your own? Over all the ship has very fine lines. The only improvement i'd recommend is adding a Tumblehome Effect to your ship. This MOC has been added to the Index of MOC Ships. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted September 2, 2008 Eurobricks Emperor Posted September 2, 2008 What a beauty! I love the curved lines at the sides, the colors and especially the castle. I also like the poop deck and the way it's accessible via the stairs as seen in this pic. One suggestion is to make the basis a bit wider so you can give the ship a mild tumblehome effect. But it looks already great even without tumblehome. Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Great work Daniel, i really like the overall look of this beauty! Might i suggest you make the headrails a little higher, because now the waves would go over it as the seem a little too low. I'd also love to see some cloth sails on it, as it would add to the realistic feel it has! Keep it up! Quote
El Bucanero Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Might i suggest you make the headrails a little higher, because now the waves would go over it as the seem a little too low. On the other hand, you wouldn't need to clean the head rails anymore when you've done a dump, like this! Quote
Thomas B. Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 A truely amazing gunship. Very well executed. Quote
