tedbeard Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 (edited) So reading the really fun review of the Holiday Villa I notice "Classic-Town.Net" on the pictures. Being curious I try the URL and lo and behold yet ANOTHER "splitter" site. Coming so soon on the heels of the Forbidden Cove/Classic-Pirates incident I have to wonder why the sudden surge in "splitter" communities? I mean, I know Trains-n-Town seems to have had some issues with their servers in the last week but was it really so bad we needed another blog-based site for this theme? I see that Brick Town Talk is more for "modern" Town buildings but for some reason Classic-Town.Net is going to cover both classic and modern town sets (according to their info.) I have not been this confused since the Brickshelf debacle. It would be nice if these new websites would post information to the community BEFORE they go online. FB already got it's wrist slapped and had to issue clarifications and apologies to all and sundry. I hope some clarifications of purpose and intent will forestall any bad feelings in this case. Edit: Sorry the topic should read .Net not .Com. Edited August 13, 2008 by tedbeard Quote
Hinckley Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Classic-Town.net is my site and it is merely a portal to Eurobricks. So settle down. The official launch will be next week and there's no reason to rant about it. Just enjoy the celebration of all things Town & Trains. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted August 13, 2008 Eurobricks Emperor Posted August 13, 2008 I've adjusted the title of this topic to classic-town.net to avoid any confusion. As Hinckley said, this is not a splinter site or new community but merely a portal for the the Eurobricks "Trains and Town" forum. The principle is the same as classic-pirates.com which is a portal site for the Eurobricks "Pirates" forum. Hinckley will be explaining all that at the time of the official launch. Quote
tedbeard Posted August 13, 2008 Author Posted August 13, 2008 Sorry, didn't mean to "rant" but perhaps not posting the URL publicly until launch day might have been a good idea. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted August 14, 2008 Governor Posted August 14, 2008 Coming so soon on the heels of the Forbidden Cove/Classic-Pirates incident I have to wonder why the sudden surge in "splitter" communities? That was more attributed to the fact that they were referring to us as "Kiddie Pirates" and the "Cabin Boy's Website" then directing all children and potential troublemakers towards us. We felt that was a little condescending but fortunately that misunderstanding was resolved quickly and we can now progress with the reassurance LEGO Pirates can permeate further throughout the online world. The more fan websites the better, it demonstrates a stronger following for a particular theme and provides users diversity. As the population grows larger every day, Internet usage expands every day and it's unrealistic to expect one website will cater for the needs of all. Quote
Shadows Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Classic-Town.net? That sounds exciting! <--- Classic Quote
Hinckley Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Sorry, didn't mean to "rant" but perhaps not posting the URL publicly until launch day might have been a good idea. I had already mentioned it a month ago on LAML Radio and I thought the watermark would be a nice little teaser... Quote
