dogphish Posted Monday at 10:37 AM Posted Monday at 10:37 AM This is my first MOC post. I've always loved the Forbidden Island set, so I wanted to remake it using some more modern features and pieces. I hope I've managed to capture the key elements of the original. With these older sets, there's often a lot of interpretation involved when rebuilding them with modern bricks. In my interpretation, the stairs are built into the rock. It always seemed a bit odd that they led directly into the ocean, so I added a small dock, which makes more sense to me. The original structure was quite basic, mainly using grey/black and stone brick effects. I chose to reinterpret this as a combination of rock and wood. I built the jail cell into the rock face and decided that the dwelling at the top would be a wooden shack, crudely constructed from ship planks, and featuring palm leaves on the roof—just like the original. I reworked the island to feel like two distinct halves, making the bridge feel purposeful rather than decorative. There is a secret cave at the back that has a removable rock panel. Quote
Yperio_Bricks Posted Monday at 02:53 PM Posted Monday at 02:53 PM (edited) Beautiful remake of the classic set I love all the details and stories you added! Like the soldier trying to get the key, the pirate slipping on the banana peel The rocks and hut are well build, the bridge is well constructed. Only the water maybe has a too regular pattern. But that is just a minor nitpick. Great job all around! And welcome to the forum @dogphish Edited Monday at 02:53 PM by Yperio_Bricks Quote

I haven't made too many mocs so I am very much still a beginner. But sites like this certainly do give a lot of inspiration to try your own build. Yeah, I tried to put in a few stories in, although my photo skills leave a lot to be desired. I totally agree about the water. I think I will place an order on bricklink to get some different blue plates to potray the different depths of water and then tile off the water in a better way. Thanks for the advice! and the welcome :-) Quote
