... There are no vehicles in Middle-Earth, unless you count Bill the pony...

Poor Bill, He's the only reason for TLC to make a LOTR license.

(TLC discussion) : Director: Ok, we have the License. The only vehicle is the pony, so we must put the pony in every set.

Employee 1 : Even in the big Gandalf vs Balrog set?

Director: Especially in the Gandalf vs Balrog set, because customers will not buy it because Gandalf or the Balrog is put in it, but because it has a vehicle where Gandalf can ride on when he's fighting with the Balrog.:laugh::grin:

I would like a Lotr license, but the castle sets are already that good, that it is not a must for me.

Have you seen the Harry Potter sets? There were loads of them, but only a few vehicle sets. Also, there was a giant spider in a Harry Potter set too. So, TLC could come up with sets for The Hobbit. I find it unliekly they will do Middle Earth based sets though. :sceptic:

:skull:

True enough. The Harry Potter theme is a bit of an oddball in that regard. As an aside, I wish TLC had done more with the whole idea of linking together the smaller classrooms and sets into a larger, cohesive Hogwarts Castle. In that first wave, you could kinda do it, but it was a bit of a mess and didn't look very nice. And then later waves seemed to drop the concept altogether.

HA! So, you're saying that Bill the pony will be the "Technic shooter" of the LOTR theme--that irritating, annoying element that they feel obligated to cram into every set? That's hilarious.

Yeah, Tom Bombadil would ride an SUV running over Barrow-Wight-People-Things.

Sounds like a great idea for a new vignette! Get working on that! I can't wait to see it.

I think another reason for Lego NOT to make "Hobbit" sets is the simple question of what would the sets be??? TLC tends to go after licenses with lots of vehicle possibilities (Star Wars, Speed Racer, Batman). Heck, even most of the Indiana Jones sets feature vehicles. There are no vehicles in Middle-Earth, unless you count Bill the pony. The sets would have to recreate various scenes and locations, almost like playsets, which is not something that TLC tends to do much.

Well Lego could always go the Star Wars route and make like five versions of Bill the Pony, include extraneous characters, and sell it at an inflated price - 29.99 for a pony, Bilbo, and two Uruk-Hai.

I’ll join ImperialShadows in putting money on it not happening, I just can’t see Lego seeking a licence at this stage. As for replacing Star War it seems even less likely Lego have the licence through 2011 and I for one expect them to renew it as long as good sale continue especially as we can expect the TV shows in a year or so.

WHAT?! No smige? No taters either? What's taters, precious?

Po Ta Toes! Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew!

When thinking of some of the warriors in Lord of The Rings some ride on camels.

New weapons could be created and there would be loads of new minifigs.

I'm not sure how Lego can make an elephant big enough to be a Mumak!
