@Math Wizard, that could work, but it's going to be a challenge. See, I am using the same support for the wall and for the slope itself so as to save parts.

Perhaps I was unclear in how I explained it. I meant to essentially take what you have built in front of the build and mirror it and place it on top of the build, so that the top of the build appears to have a steady horizontal line, even if the bricks themselves don't.

Did you mean to take the bit at the front of the build that I made with slopes and copy it and switch it so that it faces the other way. Which would then allow me to move it to the other side so that it makes the bricks look straight?

@YellowFrog what do you think of this proposal ?  (if you understand it that is, I'm not sure I have...)

Yes! It sounds like you understand. I would draw a picture to help explain, but I can't figure out how to post pictures aside from imbedding flickr links, and I'm not going to draw a diagram of how to help you and post it to my flickr :pir_laugh2:

How do you post your images, since I think it is different than what I know how to do?

@Math Wizard, I think we both use flickr as a hosting service on Eurobricks.

I'll see what I can do and try to fit it in tomorrow, but I can't promise anything.

Oh, never mind then. I just didn't see the links beside the pictures, which is what mine displayed when I used Flickr links.

No rush on trying to get something together, the deadline for the contest isn't for several weeks yet...

True, and I could use some more feedback from some other sources.

@Autumn , @Captain Pirate Man, @Mazin, do you have anything you'd wish to add to the conversation? This is your chance to try to woo me to vote for you in the nomination phase!

Hmm. I like the slope, it makes it more interesting than just a flat surface, but I guess maybe the stall should be more level with a small platform underneath perhaps, it doesn't look like how any building in real life would be or how anyone would set up a stall (and her poor back standing like that all day). I think it's small enough to have the right side dip into the road a little (one plate deep maybe) and look okay while the left is a little higher.

Also, it needs more fruit, like some more apples spilling out from the crate down the street (did Steve steal the only one?) or bananas hanging from the awning.

It's a fun little scene overall!

One more nitpick: the flag in not viewable from the front, so maybe rotate it the full 90 to face the front (and look like it is streaming behind the rolling cart). Or just 45, to be visible from both Steve's close-up photo, and the front.

@YellowFrog I'm going to accept the fact that this is a little bit of editing magic, since at 45 degrees it looks bad in both photos. So I'd rather take two separate photos with two different angles and hope no one notices.

@Autumn  Agreed about the lack of apples, and in the updated version, there will be something done about the angled walls, since those seem quite unpopular.

It sounds good, that's exactly what I would do. The only issue is that the sides would not be perpendicular to the top.

Yeah, that's why I'm thinking of redesigning the build around a standard brick wall. This would require a slight redesign of the support for the slope, but I feel like it's an appropriate measure. Is that your preferred option?

If the build is on a flat base (which it looks like it is), then it should work fine. Good luck with your modification endeavours!

Here's a potential improvement, what do you all think?

Entry_update_27%png

I feel like the wall height is at least a little too low, so I'll remake it taller, but what I wanted to do is get some feedback on the wall itself, is it better like this, or was it better the other way?

I've also added an apple on the floor like @Autumn  suggested, should I add another or is just one extra one enough?

Posted

The wall definitely looks better, but I still think the market stall should be level too. The added apple helps as well. You could add more fruit if you felt the need to.

Alright, I'll work on a new version with a level market stall, but my main concern is that it will leave an awkward step on the side where the slope continues. Alternatively, I could use the same technique as what @Math Wizard suggested.

I was thinking that too, but I don't know if you remember I said earlier you could try creating a small dip at one end (not so deep that it's underground!) so the step isn't so big at the other end.

Here's an updated version for all to see :

The gap doesn't look too bad, but it'd be a minute's work to switch it to the solution @Autumn  proposed.

Anyways, I'd love to hear from our (quite international!) new critics :

@Christophh, Was denkst du?

@Kwear, ce serait bien d'avoir l'avis d'un autre francophone sur mes créations.

Aye Horation!

I like your build and I like the idea which could be expanded much more. How did Steve end up in the desert, how did he get away from there. The build is simple but very cool and you automatically get the idea that this scene is located in the desert! Love it!

Well, @Christophh, I am working on the answer to your question.

It shall be nautical is all I'll say (since I'm as of yet unsure of completing it in time).

Is this the story of how Steve stole one apple, sold it, bought two apples, sold them as well, bought three apples... and so on... until his rich uncle died in the Caribbean and left him all he owned. :pir-grin:

Mighty fine small build, and great to see progression from the first to this latest version. :pir-thumb:

Maybe @Marooned Marin, or maybe it's the story of how he stole a load of apples and exchanged them for a ticket to the carribeans where he became rich reselling goats.

Anyhoo, here's the (likely final) update :

I am just unsure if the poster is high enough. What do y'all think?
