Max_2_0 Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 (edited) (before starting, I would like to point out that I am French, so I apologize in advance for any potential grammatical errors) I saw a lot of videos on mils and modular lighting which convinced me to start using this construction technique for my city and indeed, after a good 2 hours of gathering the necessary parts and laying the sidewalk tiles modular on my mils plate, I am very satisfied with the result. I opted for mils made with 4x4 plates but I have a question, is it better to put a 1x1 or a 2x2 in the corners? and I'm already scared at the idea of making my station which is 96x64 in mils Edited July 10, 2024 by Max_2_0 Quote
JopieK Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Very nice @Max_2_0. I am also adding MILS to everything and has been very handy so far. Quote
Max_2_0 Posted July 11, 2024 Author Posted July 11, 2024 did you add LEDs @JopieK? personally I plan to do it and this is partly the reason why I decided to make mils, I am thinking of ordering LEDs on AliExpress because the prices on sites like lightmybricks are much too high for my budget Quote
JopieK Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Not yet, but in the end I think I will. The ideas that others have for magnetic connectors are also very nice. But as I will integrate turnouts / servo's and controllers I'm still not sure what to choose (especially on the IoT side). Quote
MAB Posted July 13, 2024 Posted July 13, 2024 These deviate quite a lot from the original MILS system. I remember reading hispabrick when MILS was being developed and there are really quite strict rules about design and boundaries so that MILS plates can be used in a collaborative way. And it was designed for landscapes (L). So many people are now using them for City and Modular builds, I wonder if now I the time for MICS (Cuty), with rules for joining pavements and roads across boundaries. Of course, for personal rather than collaborative use, standards are less if an issue but I've seen so many youtubers doing their own versions that could never be used in a collaborative way that the original system was designed for. Max_2_0 Posted July 13, 2024 Author Posted July 13, 2024 @MAB Do you have an image of what a normal MILS should look like? because I tried to base myself on lots of things that I saw without ever having a real standard anywhere, and I would precisely like to make a video on the subject of MILS, so if I could avoid saying anything What Quote

Yours looks pretty much the standard modular on a MILS base. Elsewhere, a number of people are calling their City designs MILS but have variable width roads and paths or roads that are not centred at so on. The modulars are fairly consistent so naturally fit together reasonably well. Quote
