[TC27] Ford Transit Connect (2008)

This van is going to be my entry to the TC27 competition. 

The reason for making this van is that it is honestly one of my favorite everyday cars. Although I do not drive yet, (5 more months!!) I would like to buy this car. So, this is the closest I can get right now lol.

So far, I don't have much; I just started working on a torsion bar for the rear suspension. It is still in progress, so I do not have much to show, at least nothing that wouldn't be embarrassing.

My vehicle will be in 1:8.3 scale, which means that (according to Sariel's Model Scaler) it will be about 40 studs long. Hopefully, I will be able to finish it out.

As @SaperPL says it needs to be non-branded / non-licensed. So you can make a generic small van but not any specific brand / model.

also to start a WIP thread you should post images of actual progress so either images of a digital model or and physical building you’ve done so far.

On a different note I worked as part of the engineering team who designed the original Ford Transit Connect !

Please re-read the rules.
You need to show actual progress in order to open your discussion topic.
You need to make it non-branded. Keep building it as is, it can be inspired by a brand, just don't make it an exact copy. We want to see original ideas.

Ford Transit is around 4.5 meters long. When scaled to 1:8, it would be around 55 cm long, or 70 studs long. It may be better to try and scale the model according to the wheels, which, in this case, might be way too small for such a large scale.

Firstly, @Milan, I am basing it off of the transit connect, which is the smaller, more compact version. (See photo below)

The scale is actually correct, by the way. And if it isn’t, we’ll, I’m not gonna win.

Yes, I know, you wrote it in the opening post, and that's the model I used as a starting point for calculating the scaled length.

Correct scale is not important for this competition, I merely wanted to help clear up the calculations.

I was a CAE Crash engineer back then. I was the first CAE engineer on the project and built the first crash finite element model and mainly worked on the front crash performance.

Don’t forget you can’t copy the actual vehicle.

So are you doing something that looks like the short wheelbase or the long one?

Hey guys! Update time! I’ve been working on the frame, which needs to have the wheels 11 studs apart. 

However, I’m stuck on the steering. If anybody has a 11 stud wide front axle model without suspension? If possible, this would be appreciated.

If I understand correctly, your drive uses four motors. Rules allows the use of a maximum of four motors. You must have another motor to control it.

@Divitis Thanks! I looked at it, and it is too small. However, that is an ingenious design! Do you have directions for it, or just that post?

@efgen86, thanks for clearing that up! I really didn’t read the rules apparently! I went over them again and realize that now. I will post pics once I change the model. I’m thinking I’ll change it to 2 motors. That will give it ample power and will still allow me the use of more motors. In the model

Hey everyone! It is a bit late, but I am switching vehicles! My summer was VERY busy, and I had little time to build. I am now in the process of building a manual dump truck. It will be manual with HOG steering, and a tipping bed. I hope to squeeze in some extra building time to finish it before the entry is closed!

You’re more than a bit late for the competition it’s closed. The deadline was the 2nd.

why don’t you go back to your original idea and just build the van for fun?

Yeah, I know that I was late. I didn’t know it was the second, but whatever. 
I decided not to do the van because 1: I really didn’t do too much, and 2: I actually used the parts for other projects. I might build it in the future though.
