Feuer Zug Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 The airport control tower is a major landmark at larger airports. Designed so the controllers can see everything on the airfield, it usually is the tallest building around. The main controller area is fairly small, befitting a regional airport. This tower is designed to be semi-modular. The tower is smaller in size vertically, but could easily be expanded with a base extension. Or, it could be connected to the roof of an existing building and gain height that way. The red and white stripe feature could easily be replaced with a more modern design. The current design is a homage to the Ford Island, Hawaii tower. Glass surrounds the main level, allowing unrestricted visibility to the controllers. An external walk around area is also accessible for the controllers. The controllers have all the requirements to run airport operations. Radar screens, computer terminals, binoculars, light gun, and recording systems are all included. Quote
Sarles Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 I like it! Cool use of those windscreens for the curved windows. Quote

I found they work better than anything else when building a larger control tower. 18 hours ago, Toastie said: Very nice design, indeed! My other ones aren't the proper scale, but could be used for forced perspective potentially. Quote
