CDKiii Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Is it normal that parts exported in collada files from studi.o don't have right sizes when we print them on 3d printing? It is not to produce fake parts but to design custom parts like hats or a specific saddle, but when i print it, it does not "clip" on the horse. Is it something would by the lego group to avoid copy? I hope i was clear enough in my bad english. Thanks Quote
SylvainLS Posted March 13, 2023 Posted March 13, 2023 Hi, First, in Studio, it’s not LDD parts (or just a very few), it’s LDraw parts. Then, those parts are 1. simplified (and sometimes wrong), and 2. perfectly in-System. For instance, a 1xN brick is exactly 0.8cm x (Nx0.8)cm. A real LEGO brick is more 0.78cm x (Nx0.8-0.2)cm. IOW, there’s space left around the bricks, because if they were “perfect,” 1. you would need an hydraulic press to place bricks next to each others, 2. even if you managed it, the bricks would then fuse at the atomic level. Another example: in LDraw, clips and bars have the same diameter, 0.32cm, IRL, clips are 0.32cm and bars are 0.318cm. Quote
