GerritvdG Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 Quote In an unspecified year sometime in the future, the top-secret Intergalactical Rescue department of the Space Police is established to save people in mortal danger with the aid of technologically-advanced rescue vehicles and equipment known as the Thunderbirds. Thunderbird 4 Intergalactic (TB4I) is Intergalactical Rescue's go-to vehicle for rescues in all kind of liquids. TB4I needs some sort of container for travelling to danger zones (sure @2GodBDGlory Special Delivery is wel suited for this). TB4I is equipped with a versatile arsenal of sophisticated gadgetry - including a missile launcher, a searchlight, a battering ram and a laser, all of which are located in the nose of the sub. It is capable of travelling on surface liquids(hover mode) or submerged. Its small interior is equipped with an airlock for access and exit while submerged. Welcome to the Thunderbird 4 Intergalactic lab! When thinking about this contest the good old Thunderbirds came into my mind. When I first saw the series on TV it really fascinated me (and even then it must have been more then 20 years old). Therefore, plan is to recreate Thunderbird 4 in an Intergalactic version with all the sophisticated gadgetry. Like others I started with the rough shaping of the front and cabin with the parts I have at hand. The scale is based on the curves of the panels. Next is to start some modelling in studio to see how colors and parts work out visually, and to try different things and shapes for the cabin. In the meantime some mechanismes for the features can be worked out. Looks like a really fun challenge! Quote
RiGi Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 Nice choice! I loved a bit of Thunderbirds back in the day and this looks good so far, so I'm excited to see how this progresses! Quote
Jurss Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Good start, almost ready :) Just not so much space for some functions, if it is not planned to extend more. Quote
GerritvdG Posted January 22, 2023 Author Posted January 22, 2023 Worked in Stud.io on modeling the fuselage to estimate which parts I need to order. This is the result so far, I really liked to use orange as secondary color, but not all used parts are available, maybe try some alternatives... Never used that many panels in a MOC! Need to finish the rear side and then I'm ready for a bricklink order. Next thing is working on the features, I've the following list: Flight controls Halogen Lighting Bar Hydraulic Rams With Electro-magnetic Clamp Paralyzer (see https://thunderbirds.fandom.com/wiki/Paralysing_A_Mini-Sub) Laser beam Cutter Missiles The features will be controles by some knobs at the under side I think... GerritvdG Posted February 5, 2023 Author Posted February 5, 2023 Some progress here, ordered pieces have arrived and this is the bird so far. Next is going to add the features, most of them will be at the frond, but not sure were I should put the control knobs, maybe at the underside, or just some levers. I'm not sure if I add the Halogen Lighting Bar because the prototypes are far the bulky and this intergalactic version could use some more efficient solution :). I'm going to add the Hydraulic Rams and the missiles for sure! Also some sort of flight controls are high on the list. Furthermore, I need to tweak the design a bit, and there are some rough edges here and there, but happy with the current result. Thunderbirds Are Go! Quote
langko Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 This brings back some memories! Cool looking model so far. Very clean and smooth panel usage Quote
Thirdwigg Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 I love the red details. They looks so clean. Do you have any of the internals built out yet? Quote

No internals yet, I've an empty fuselage on my desk, started with some mechanisms, but having lot's of space inside makes it difficult to choose, lots of possibilities! Quote
GerritvdG Posted April 1, 2023 Author Posted April 1, 2023 (edited) Finished this bird after it has been sitting on my desk for more then a month. Thanks @Jim for the deadline Added the following this week: Lever/linkage to control the rams; Lever/linkage to control the adjustable fin; Openable tailgate; Arial size 85 number "4" stickers. Hand-cut from self-adhesive film; Detailed cockpit with some greeble and fake flight controls. I have an unfinished studio file, please let me know if you want instructions... Was wondering if Thunderbirds is as famous in other countries as in The Netherlands.... There was just enough daylight at this rainy afternoon for some photos: Edited April 1, 2023 by GerritvdG Fixed images Quote
