Ross Fisher Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 (edited) Hercule didn't seem to have a grasp on the severity of the situation. There was an army of Lotii somewhere out here, and yet he kept blabbering on about the latest vintages back home. "...Of course the claret in the Lavoye this year has suffered terribly from the inclement weather. All this hot and cold is terrible for the vine. It is possible that it will mature passably, but in my opinion they would be better to give it up as vinegar and save the cellar space for cheese instead. "Now, as for your colonial wines, even you must concede they are second-rate. Take, for example, this stuff coming out of Lavalette, or whatever it's called-" "Brother, have you spoken to the scouts recently?" snapped the Bishop, eager to interrupt his flow. "I... no?" he asked, as if it was unthinkable. "Don't you think you had better?" "Who do you want me to talk with, Jules?" He scoffed. "The killer nuns, or the local savages?" The Bishop sighed inwardly. "Talk to the Tyree'dee, Hercule. They know this land, and they move faster than we can." "A filthy native? No thankyou, brother. If it's so important to you, you talk to them." The Général trotted on, while the clergyman uttered a short prayer to Hades in dismay. "You there!" he snapped at a tribesman he recognised. "How is our route? Any sign of the enemy?" He prayed that the man understood him. "Enemy far. Route good. Some water, trees. No problem." He would have to send the pioneers ahead. Or persuade his brother to do so. Easier said than done. Now all the military hierarchy was in place, The Général found it all too easy to ignore advice from a mere representative of The Order. He looked back over the column of troops. Would they be enough? Only time would tell. Edited December 7, 2022 by Ross Fisher Quote
Darnok Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 Lovely procession and surroundings there! The writing is inspired as well, I chuckled quite a bit. Where are these cool black frame parts from? Those are awesome! Quote
Ross Fisher Posted December 7, 2022 Author Posted December 7, 2022 @Darnok Thanks! The frame was inspired by @Ayrlego, who has used them very tastefully in the past: It's a hovercraft skirt piece, 2 end-to-end. Pretty rare, but worth it. Quote
Jeff of Clubs Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 Fun read! Got a bad feeling about this. What a lusty march you have there. Packed but not too busy! The base was a nice touch. Thanks again for taking on this story! Quote
NOD Posted December 7, 2022 Posted December 7, 2022 It's a very beautiful landscape. The Sisters of Artemis are a strong squad. I like how the minifigures are positioned, always alert and prepared for an ambush. Funny story! I don't know if Hercule is the right choice to lead Oleon. The bishop still has to pray a lot. Quote
Yperio_Bricks Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 Nice scene of the advancing troops and a great story! Quote

In a meritocratic society, There would be a number of more obvious candidates. But that's not the world we play in. Hercule is nobility, he's reasonably wealthy, he's got family connections, and he's got some experience leading troops. Combined with the fact that El Oleonda is the far end of the world as far as Oleon is concerned, and you see why he's an obvious candidate. 20 hours ago, Darnok said: The writing is inspired as well, I chuckled quite a bit. 4 hours ago, Yperio_Bricks said: great story! 13 hours ago, NOD said: Funny story! 16 hours ago, Jeff of Clubs said: Fun read! Mesabi Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 Lovely build Ross! I like the landscaping, and the display base is fantastic. I'm assuming those are hovercraft hulls? The writing is excellent as well, and I appreciate your addition of a character who's a bit obnoxious. (He was probably added while I was out, just my first sighting of him.) Maybe he'll bump into the Count one day. I definitely like your battle nuns as well. Every setting is improved by battle nuns! Excellent job! Quote

Battle Nuns are good. Quote
LM71Blackbird Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 This is one of those build that is just fun to look at. The posing of the minifigs is awesome, the building story is a nice read and the scene looks like dense jungle without losing sight of the action. And yes, Battle Nuns are good and I hope to see more of them! Quote

The Count served as a low ranking officer in the wars, and the conflict is what drove him insane. He's always faulted Corrington for their loss in the war, and a lot of his antagonism to Corrish characters stems from it. He also ran out of food and ate his horses in the war... leading to another character tic... Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 Fine, fine. But who would speak to scouts? What would General Custer say? Quote

Seriously though, if you're not going to talk to your scouts, there's no point having them. And if you're going to insist every message between them and their CIC goes along the whole chain of command, important messages are going to take an age to reach the person who can make important messages. Right now, the Bishop is acting as a Head of intelligence. A mirador, for those who read Sharpe. Quote
