I'm already a Lego fan (especially with Trains & Town), and I usually shop in-store except my train collections.

But recent years, I notice S@H Canada prices are really high *devil* compare to the US, so I was wondering is there any Other places that I can shop Lego safely? I would prefer to shop in-store because of the shipping cost.

I live in Canada (Ontario to be exact).

As for shopping possibilities, I'm afraid you won't find a cheaper place than North America, especially the US. It's more expensive everywhere else (see "Pricing comments" at Jake McKee's LEGO Blog for details as to why) :(

well if your looking for lego trains i live in Ontario too in waterloo. There is a lego store in st. jacobs they have 54 or 5 my own train cars but do not have the train cab however they are amazingly cheap i priced it all out for the 4 or 5 train cars and it would be $78.00 roughly hope that helped the address if the store can be found here at there website

Does anybody really care what brand is on their kids toys? I want more stuff for my bucks and I don't care in the slightest if the stuff bears the LEGO logo, just as long as its got the same quality. And I'm not from Northern America!

LEGO is gouging and inventing silly justifications like that in a meek attempt disguise the fact they are doing so.

I find that S@H prices are not significantly different in Canada vs US after adjusting for exchange. Maybe a 5% premium if our dollar is at 80 cents US. A nuisance, but nothing like the crazy ripoffs the Europeans or Aussies sometimes have to put up with.

However, you can get good deals in Canada. Getting "good deals" depends on definition. You won't get 50% off on this years' sets, and if you want them that bad you will have to pay full price (unless there is a mistake, for example recently on S@H, for several hours they listed a bunch of brand new sets for the US dollar cost, but in Canadian dollars. I had a bonanza!).

On sets from the preceding 2 years you can routinely get 25-50% off if you are willing to wait until they turn up on sale somwhere. The only caveat is that the big sets often don't turn up that way.

So I use S@H LOTS! Especially if you wait for what you want to turn up on "sales and deals". I probably buy 75% of my new Lego at S@H simply for the convenience, especially if you buy a bunch at once so that shipping is not so painful. They will ship practically anything for 25$ Canadian, even if it takes multiple boxes.

Winners often has great discounts, but selection of course is very very poor (typically 2-3 sets at a time, but once in a while there is a bonanza). This is where the other 25% of my new Lego purchases come from.

I am told Zellers is good, but I don't have ready access to it. Probably similar to Winners.

Walmart is good supposedly, but I have not been impressed and I check frequently.

ToysRUs NEVER has any good deals, but always has the most up-to-date collection.

The Bay occasionally has sales that lead to bargoons (like buy 1 get another of equal value for 50%, so it amounts to 25% off, which is OK for relatively new sets. This is how I got all the Toa Hordika, Krekka, Nidhiki, a couple of knights). This is rare though.

If you want specific parts, Bricklink is the most cost effective.

I built up most of my collection on eBay originally, and you can get some great bargains occasionally, but increasingly I am using eBay less for Lego. Why? Most importantly, I have all the old sets I want :-). For newer sets, practically all the bargains on new Lego sets are basically the same as those that go on sale on S@H or Winners. So, why take a chance with an eBay seller. Also, I am kind of sick of used sets, with beat up or absent boxes, missing parts, dirty parts, smoke smell, etc. Still, eBay has a definite role for older sets you can't get anywhere else. There is no other reasonable way to get sets more than about 4-5 years old. For example, I have all the castle collections except Forestmen and I will have to go to eBay to gather those sets.

My personal opinion, anyway.

Like eBay, BrickLink has a feedback system where users can comment on their transactions. If someone had a poor feedback rating then just don't buy from them because you'd be asking for trouble. However if they have 100% positive feedback then you should be safe. I've being purchasing from eBay and Brinklick for around 3 years now and haven't had any problems. Having wrote that I've probably just jinxed myself!
