Which Minecraft set would you recommend for a teen who doesn't like Lego? I have been letting him play my Lego City and Creator sets which are my primary collection but he doesn't seem to be interested at all. Personally I am not interested in Minecraft so I do not have any such sets but he is so interested in Minecraft games and he likes playing computer and mobile phone all day long which isn't healthy so I'd really look for recommendation on which Minecraft for him to get started with. Which Minecraft set is the most interesting to play with and is currently available? I prefer a medium set, not a big set or small box set so he won't be impatient with big set and he will not spend too little time on small box set.

Does he have a favourite Biome or Mob? There are some nice mid-sized sets that will be fun to build and feature different creatures and environment.

My Brother in Law and Sister bought The Guardian Battle for the Axolotls, as they adore their pet Axolotl. So if he has a favourite, then that would immediately engage some interest.

If just starting out with minecraft LEGO, something small like 21166: The 'Abandoned' Mine covers the very basics, and it's a 2020 set , but still available.

21169: The First Adventure will retire soon, and has a more vertical build, but is a very minecraft-ish set considering the surface with trees, minecart and deep cave, and water/lava and some skeleton action, also combines well with 21166.

For a playset, I'd say something like 21176: The Jungle Abomination is interesting, even while the characters/monster aren't from the basic minecraft game, it's more of an action set of a battle vs some monsters with figures you can equip with different items.

Of course there are other sets that focus on other aspects of the game, like building houses, farms, the nether and ocean etc.

Funny you should mention this set. I just bought my first Minecraft set, 21166 and I agree it would be a good starter set. Also it is readily available for 20% discount, since it is so old and it has a fair amount of very useful basic bricks, 248 pcs. I bought it strictly as a parts pack and will likely pick up a couple more, $17 for 248 parts while the newer sets only offer less than 200 pcs. for $20. Deals like this are quickly becoming a rarity, with the runaway inflation facing the world right now.

Just grabbed set 21170, The Pig House as well,  only $40 for 490 pcs, pretty good discount from the original $50. Anyway if you need pink bricks for your collection, it would be hard to beat this set. These soon to retire discounted Minecraft sets are literally a wealth of great basic bricks if someone was wanting to expand their loose brick collection. What I really like is you don't get a bunch of tiny special parts that tend to bloat out so many sets of the other themes.

21170 looks good but how about the rabbit ranch i.e. 21181? Do you have it? Is it fun to play with? Because I don't see 21170 here but only 21181, sold for $28 here
