I think Lego will have missed an opportunity with Transformers fans when they don't make more cassettes for Soundwave.

How good would it be to have Soundwave surrounded by 6 of his cassettes

It would really be a nice opportunity to get some small sets out there as well, but I feel much more confident in replicating lego's casseticon strategy than replicating full-size transformers.

We have official Ravage and Laserbeak, which gets us Buzzsaw as well via a color swap (and Glit, but he's obscure.)

Once I get soundwave I'll personally be working on a humanoid template and a bat template to get Ratbat, Rumble, and Frenzy. From there I might start doing the more obscure ones, but at the very least I want to be able to have what I view as his main minions (Laserbeak, Ravage, Ratbat, Rumble, Frenzy)

And the total price would be lower? GWP would be something.

A GWP would be nice, though unfortunately it seems unlikely.

I wonder if there is any chance we might one day get a Devastator? LOL That is a long shot, and it would be too hardcore for Lego to produce something of that size. But it is nice to dream.

If we did. I could only see it being a combiner like Voltron. So no individual robots just Vehicle> Devastator

As @Takanuinuva says, they'd never be able to do robots that transform into construction vehicles and limbs, not without the set being $700 and having zero articulation in combined mode or something. (Which I guess is possible, but I don't see happening). Vehicles into a single devastator unit I could see mechanically happening, but I feel like it's an odd choice of a set when we have so many other famous characters left to do.

Combination of J.I. Joe and Transformers. Whole theme.

It's not impossible, the rumored Energon Universe show is based on a comic that contains both franchises within it's universe.

Saw Soundwave in the local LEGO store earlier today, if it becomes available at a decent discount I will go for it but I am not paying RRP.

Ordered mine on 1 Aug. I also had a load of pick a brick coming so I now have Buzzsaw. I've also attempted Frenzy using similar techniques to Laserbeak. Will post when done.

Luckily the instructions are now available for Soundwave so can pick through their approaches.

Will need a printed face. I did have one constructed, but it just won't fold up neatly.

Edit

With some complex stud reversal, I managed to put the reels on his back. The only issue is that his chin pokes out 2p in cassette mode.

For those that own the set, does it include extra 1x1 Decepticon symbol tiles?

Yes, but only one. There were 4 in total in the bags (2 for Laserbeak, 1 for Ravage and one spare).

Love the build and how it looks, so far… Have to wait for replacement stickers however. My sticker sheet had two folds and a crinkle messing up over half the stickers. Had to wait over 45 minutes to talk to someone in support, but they were super nice and understanding. Might be a couple weeks to arrive?
Anyway, I’m looking to add buzzsaw to the display by color swapping. Any chance I might be able to pick up the printed parts: head, logo tiles and tape reels eventually on BrickLink? Or should I look on eBay? Maybe someone might sell just Laserbeak. Here’s hoping 🤞🏻

Mine won't be shipped until October 1st, for some reason

I do remember seeing September as the month of release (not sure if it was the 1st or not) but as soon as I pre-ordered the expected shipping date said October..

Mitch

Does anyone have this yet? It's still on back-order for me

Where are you ordering from? In the UK Soundwave has been available on the Lego store website with delivery being in 3-5 working days. And I've it in the stores too.

I'm still waiting to see if Ransom_Fern does a rework of Soundwave. I really liked the Optimus and Bumblebee versions, although the official Soundwave looks pretty great, so I may keep it as is when I get it.

I haven't ordered it yet. It mustn't be as popular in the UK! I've only ever seen "back order" every time I go to the Lego website, ever since launch. I picked up some Missing Link figures in the mean-time, but this set is higher on my priority list.
