Tim_AZ Posted December 24, 2021 Posted December 24, 2021 I can't believe it has been 9 and a half years since I posted my last ADU MOC the ADU Locust Dropship. This project started out as a simple exercise to see if I could design a reasonably accurate Gepard SPAAG turret with the level of detail I wanted for no particular reason. The next thing I know I'm developing a chassis for it. As with my previous builds I wanted to maintain the Alien Conquest aesthetic while expanding on their in universe capabilities. This led to some design choices I only went with because it looks correct in context. The completely exposed wheels/tires are a great example of this. There's also some details like the various tools hanging on the turret that will likely change. Anyway, I'm still using LDD with its outdated library so there will be some color swapping as I begin gathering the parts I don't have on hand for the build. Fortunately I was buying AC sets in bulk way back then so I have quite a bit of what I need already. Please let me know what you think. Quote
Guyinaplaguemask Posted December 24, 2021 Posted December 24, 2021 Very nice, but I feel that the turret is too tall for the chassis. If you look at every land-based vehicle with a turret, the turret is shorter than or as tall as the chassis. The gun barrels feel a bit too skinny for the size of the mounts, but other than that great job, it definitely feel like an AC vehicle. Quote

When compared to the source, I don't think the proportions are that far off. I had to make a choice between having a secure mount for the barrels or a more accurate taper. Quote
proximityfuse Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 This is a really great model, perhaps the best Gepard SPAAG model I found while searching. Quote
