Verengard Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 (edited) Hello, I need to replace cable for my RCX light sensor because its insulation is rotten, anyone has experience in opening it (where to pry, what tools to use) ? Seems that it's held by 6 blue tabs. Edited October 22, 2021 by Verengard Quote
dr_spock Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 It looks like the tabs are melted into place. It might be possible to reshape them with a hot blade so the blue cover can be removed. Otherwise, it could be break them and reglue the cover on. Quote
1963maniac Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 (edited) Yup, the insulation on those old wires gets brittle and falls off. Liquid electrical tape can work. It comes in a container with a brush in the lid. Just separate the wires and re-insulate them. It will save you the frustration of trying to get that apart and putting it back together again in a good working condition. I have never had to cut and splice wires either. Toastie Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 I had success with cutting the wire about 5 cm away from the sensor, applying matching heat shrinking tubing on each lead and pushing that as far into the sensor as possible, applying heat, soldering new wires to the old wires.
