Khorne Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 For all the people who hate fleshtones, I made this flashy signature: Link to sig 1 These are just starters, if I come up with better ones, I'll post them, too. If you have nice sigs about Fleshtone-Rage, show them to me, you can't have worst than mine :-D . KHORNE, da Fleshtone-H8TR Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted July 12, 2005 Governor Posted July 12, 2005 Could you elaborate upon exactly what you mean by that? Quote
Sarg_Kulo Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 YOu really think he could mean anything else otehr then flesh tone lego minifigurs? Quote
xwingyoda Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Well I have to say that I like those new flesh tone MFs !!!!! I was dubious at first, but I have come to like them ;) !!!!! Quote
Sarg_Kulo Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Yeah me too. From the pics I saw I was mad but wen I actually got one... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted July 12, 2005 Governor Posted July 12, 2005 YOu really think he could mean anything else otehr then flesh tone lego minifigurs? Yes I do. He didn't say mini-figures so he could mean anything. Just remember Sarg Duplo, "assumption is the mother of truck ups" Quote
Sarg_Kulo Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 What else is ever reffered to as fleshtones? :f) 8-) *wub* Quote
Khorne Posted July 12, 2005 Author Posted July 12, 2005 Just for Phes: with fleshtones, I'm refering to the fleshtoned LEGO minifigs. I just can't stand it that LEGO started with fleshtones for movie lines and leaving the other lines yellow! I love the yellow minifigs, they are a sign of LEGO, fleshtones aren't: other toys' figs are fleshtoned, too. Yellow makes these midgets unique. The fleshtones don't fit between the Originals (except as a dead corpse). Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted July 12, 2005 Governor Posted July 12, 2005 You should really check out http://www.fleshtones.com/ to begin with. If that's not enough. I'll feed you more. Quote
Mr. Lego-builder Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Ummm...Mr. Phes, were you trying to find a website like that on purpose? |-/ Quote

The fleshtones don't fit between the Originals (except as a dead corpse). I complete agree KhoRne! Yellow skin tone was part of LEGO's original charm. I always saw LEGO as being racially ambiguous because of their choice to use a colour neutral to any skin colour. Ok, sometimes Asians are referred to as having yellow skin, but that isn't literally true. Although it did lead to the term "yella belly" deriving from the Asians travelling to the gold fields in the mid West... But anyway... Quote

Not the material they're made out of anyway... Quote
Sarg_Kulo Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 I wish they'd make all the figs fleshtones and not just the movie ones. Really having some yellow and some pink really isn't good no matter how you look at it is it? Quote
xwingyoda Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 I have to disagree with you here Sarg, in real life people have different skin colors, and different shades within the same color; and in the Lego life, the MFs have two types of skins ;) I think it adds diversity ;) Quote
Sarg_Kulo Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Well I suppose I can see your point. But I'd still prefer them all flesh. DOn't dark skin mini figures have two skin colours? Quote
SuvieD Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 :) is not the same as :f) . Period. With :) all people are equal and there is no reason to treat them differently than anyone else. With :f) people are not the same and many will be treated poorly or stereotyped into a "color" role. I have many friends from many "races" but to me they are people. To some people I know they are sub-people or second class people or near worthless people. LEGO is a toy that children will use how they want to. LEGO doesn't have to be violent children make it so. They don't have to sell tanks and planes people will make them on their own. If people are bigotted then they will find ways to do so with even LEGO. If we say that LEGO is mature enough for such diversity then are they not for guns, tanks, planes, and missles? What about those violent movies, shouldn't LEGO venture into partnership with Troy, Gladiator, Alien vs Predator or War of the Worlds? What is wrong with toys that depict religion or even terrorism? These are the things young children in many parts of the world live through everyday. Why not make them into the very toys they play with. I know many of you might think this seems too far out there. Comparing "natural" skin tones in LEGO to violence, war and hate seems too much out of proportion. LEGO has been a neutral imagination driven toy since the first little brick snapped to another. Whether on purpose or accidentally the yellow minifig has been a symbol of unity and equality. People often ask for what they want before the effects are even considered. First it was duplos switch to flesh tones, then the different nationalities represented in face printing, now flesh tones for minifigures, now with dinos (though trying to have them as alien blaster type weapons) guns, next modern military? What a spout. Just me thinking in writing. Yellow is simple and fair. No one is yellow. If LEGO makes too many "light" colored people and not as many "dark" colored people then people will complain. Already I have seen mocs where the NBA heads were used to make jokes about race. LEGO is for children. Let it stay innocent and free from the hate of the world. Leave minifigs :) Get rid of :f) And anyone who likes the flesh colors please PM if you want to trade for them I have some I want to get rid of. Quote
The Middleman Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Well, SuvieD, flesh tones are only used for licenses, to represent real people. Even this is used sparingly - the Scuderia Ferrari Truck, for instance, uses yellow figures. I don't mind flesh tones - I use them to represent real people as well, when I'm creating a historical scene, etc. Although sometimes I wish certain flesh-toned head designs were available in normal yellow, I appreciate that there's already a wide enough selection to be getting on with. I don't think flesh tones warrant as much hatred as they receive from the community. PS - did you receive my private message? Quote
Khorne Posted July 12, 2005 Author Posted July 12, 2005 I couldn't have said it better, SuvieD :'( . KHORNE Quote
xwingyoda Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Very well put SuivieD, but I do not agree with you !!!!! A lot of toy brands have put "colored" people as a marketing strategy to appeal to the broader audience possible !!! TLC just followed that trend which is not per se reprehensible !!!! Nowadays, its important for kids to identify to the toys they buy !! Its not because TLC sells "colored" MFs that every kid will turn to racists !!!! Also playing the devil's advocate, having a single color MF can be viewed as communism (everybody is equal... an ideology which led to more than 80 Million deads...). Its funny to notice that this whole debate started with fleshtone MFs. Nobody raised the point with the black MFs (NBA sets, Ambulance driver in Spidey) and the asian MFs (adventurers). Quote
SuvieD Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 BJ- hatred? no "strong dislike" and yes I did, I got busy last night cleaning up and getting laundry done, I will photo tonight. xwingyoda A lot of toy brands have put "colored" people as a marketing strategy to appeal to the broader audience possible !!! TLC just followed that trend which is not per se reprehensible !!!! Yes, I know but (evil little word isn't it ;) ) I would have enjoyed a yellow Lando and I do enjoy the yellow street basketball players with their really nice facial hair and short hair prints. I think yellow is the only color needed and by me wanted. LEGO is all about yellow minifigs and multicolored bricks. Nowadays, its important for kids to identify to the toys they buy !! Its not because TLC sells "colored" MFs that every kid will turn to racists !!!!Also playing the devil's advocate, having a single color MF can be viewed as communism (everybody is equal... an ideology which led to more than 80 Million deads...). Right again, most people will not be racist because they get flesh colored minifigs. People are still people and I for one am not yellow nor is my dark friend Ellis. We both like yellow figs. ;) To say that communism is to blame is not quite right. It was powerful corrupt self-centered greedy men under the guise of communism that led to such evil times, not communism. Communism itself is a wonderful idea but it will never work. Its funny to notice that this whole debate started with fleshtone MFs. Nobody raised the point with the black MFs (NBA sets, Ambulance driver in Spidey) and the asian MFs (adventurers). I wasn't around back then :-D ;) Besides figs should be yellow for the sake of consistancy. They were yellow back in the 70's they should be yellow until LEGO goes under. Though I like the new grays and brown I think that they should have left them for consistancy. I am much less against the color change as I am fleshtone figs. *sick* :f) *sick* Quote
