Dreamweb Posted October 16, 2005 Author Posted October 16, 2005 Because I've been very busy lately with non-lego activity (like graduating the university :) ) I had to postpone finishing my new own creation, which is another big ship. Here are some pictures showing it the way it looks now, still staying in a drydock somewhere: Perhaps I'll finish it this week... Finally...
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 16, 2005 Governor Posted October 16, 2005 Yes, I've discovered university is very distracting from the more important things in life like, LEGO for example. What kind of sales are you going to put on this splendid vessel?
Dreamweb Posted October 16, 2005 Author Posted October 16, 2005 Probably paper sails will do in the beginning. Perhaps later I will buy some canvas and make sails for all my ship MOCs.
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 16, 2005 Governor Posted October 16, 2005 Will they have any particular design on them?
Dreamweb Posted October 16, 2005 Author Posted October 16, 2005 Don't know yet. I'll take care of the sails when the rest is ready. Generally it's going to be a merchant vessel, hence only 4 cannons and a HUGE cargo bay.
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 16, 2005 Governor Posted October 16, 2005 A merchant vessel? Good idea! The pirate theme needs more of those. What kind of mini-figures will you put on it?
Dreamweb Posted October 16, 2005 Author Posted October 16, 2005 I'm still thinking what nation's ship will it be. BTW, wasn't it so that even merchant vessels had a few soldiers on board?
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 17, 2005 Governor Posted October 17, 2005 Actually I don't know for sure. If the cargo was important and belonged to a noble person then it probably would have someone to guard it.
Dreamweb Posted October 17, 2005 Author Posted October 17, 2005 Now, before I finish this new ship and post its images, I want to show you something I made about a year ago. This is not a MOC, just a modified Armada Flagship. As you can see the hull is longer, it contains 6 stud long custom made middle section. There aren't really many changes, one of the most noticeable is perhaps the placing of the mizzen sail - the original didn't make sense to me. And there's also a jib the Spaniards stole from the Caribbean Clipper. :) There are some other minor differences, like the construction of the hatch (closed and open). As you can see the crew is made of part of my Spanish army. The brickshelf folder is here.
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 17, 2005 Governor Posted October 17, 2005 Is the 6 stud long custom made middle section the bit that protrudes from the hull?
Dreamweb Posted October 17, 2005 Author Posted October 17, 2005 Yes, unfortunately such middle sections will always stand out a bit. However that doesn't refrain many MOC builders I know from using them. Note that the big merchantman I'm still working on (I've been today but it's still not ready) doesn't have original middle sections at all.
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 17, 2005 Governor Posted October 17, 2005 a HUGE cargo bay. What shall you put in this HUGE cargo bay?
Dreamweb Posted October 17, 2005 Author Posted October 17, 2005 It will be universal - the ship can transport money, goods, animals, maybe barrels of rum or slaves - depends on what they wish to trade...
Norro Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 It will be universal - the ship can transport money, goods, animals, maybe barrels of rum or slaves - depends on what they wish to trade... What kind of animals... ;) God Bless, Nathan
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 17, 2005 Governor Posted October 17, 2005 It will be universal - the ship can transport money, goods, animals, maybe barrels of rum or slaves - depends on what they wish to trade... To put it more concisely. What kind of LEGO pieces do YOU own that you plan on using as cargo?
Dreamweb Posted October 18, 2005 Author Posted October 18, 2005 What kind of animals... Let me think... They can transport monkeys to Europe and sell them for circuses or something like that. :) What kind of LEGO pieces do YOU own that you plan on using as cargo? Apart from monkeys: money, jewels, horses, weapons, food. They can carry supplies for the colonies for instance.
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 18, 2005 Governor Posted October 18, 2005 How do you intend to preserve the food and feed the monkey during the voyage back to the Old World?
Dreamweb Posted October 18, 2005 Author Posted October 18, 2005 Maybe not literally food but seeds or cuttings. As for the monkeys it's really a problem, however my crew will soon think of something. :) Oh wait a minute, the ship doesn't have any assinged crew yet... Rats!
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 18, 2005 Governor Posted October 18, 2005 You're assigning rats as the crew of the ship?
Norro Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 How do you intend to preserve the food and feed the monkey during the voyage back to the Old World? Lego has many valuable/easily attainable/historically acurrate foods. For example the banana, ice cream, pizza, popcorn etc God Bless, Nathan
Dreamweb Posted October 18, 2005 Author Posted October 18, 2005 You're assigning rats as the crew of the ship? Aren't the rats a part of every ship's crew? :) Lego has many valuable/easily attainable/historically acurrate foods. For example the banana, ice cream, pizza, popcorn etc Only this week! For every 2 ships sunk you get a free pizza.
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 19, 2005 Governor Posted October 19, 2005 Actually it would seem most logical they were transporting bananas back to the Old World, especially to places like Britain where (as far as I'm aware) is too cold to grow them.
Dreamweb Posted October 19, 2005 Author Posted October 19, 2005 Yes, that's one possibility... However I don't have any Lego bananas. :)
Norro Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 Actually it would seem most logical they were transporting bananas back to the Old World, especially to places like Britain where (as far as I'm aware) is too cold to grow them. A friend of mine grows them here in Ireland (I'm not even kidding...) God Bless, Nathan
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 20, 2005 Governor Posted October 20, 2005 Does he grow them without the assistance of a green house or some form of technology that warms their surrounding environment?
