action Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 I love this castle so much. I think this is a very interesting castle with intriguing architecture I can't help but notice some similarities with the belgian "gravensteen" as pictured here: What's also interesting, is that in europe the 6081 set was known as the "haunted castle / ghost castle" while in the US it was commonly known as king's mountain forest I always preferred it's purpose as a ghost castle though, as seen in this advert, surrounded by lighting and dark clouds: I never owned it as a kid, I owned 6086 black knights castle in stead, but I recently managed to find one complete with instructions. It's the stuff of dreams Quote

It's the stuff of dreams I was in the same position, owned 6086 and not 6081, so I probably can't appreciate it to the fullest but honestly I'm not really impressed with it. The chapel in the front is fun and the tree in the back gives a nod to the future but the sides especially look kind of weak to me. Compared to 6086, which is built on the exact same baseplate and does use 20% more parts, I don't think it comes even close. Just my two cents, off course! Quote
AmperZand Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 I prefer the colour of 6081. I’ve been to Ghent and visited Gravensteen. Can’t say that 6081 or indeed any official LEGO castle made me think of it. Then again, I have been to lots of castles across Europe and none of them has reminded me much of a LEGO set. Quote
Fuppylodders Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 I had 6081 as a kid, and absolutely loved it! I played with it so much, the little trapdoor feature on the tower, the drawbridge, the little prison bit, the little pit infront of the prison door, the knights, and the ghost... As a kid of back then, this set was full of hours of fun of imaginary playing and attacking/defending and ghost haunting. I still have the ghost somewhere :) Quote
