Roof Technique idea

I had like 1000 of these wrenches and i was trying to think of a new idea to use them. What do you think about this roof technique? Has this been done before?

Never seen it before, but it looks cool! Too bad that those wrenches don't come in Reddish Brown or Tan.

I don't recall it being done before - what happens if you rotate each layer just slightly so they don't all line up?

My only complaint is what type of actual roof are you trying to emulate with this technique?  It looks like a thatched roof, but then the color is wrong (as @caiman0637 said, too bad it doesn't come in a tan-family color).

Tan or Dark Tan would be nice, but there are examples of very dark thatchings:

Roofs are the part of custom building I tend to struggle with the most. 

So any technique suggestion is a good one in my books. Thanks for sharing!
