BrickHammer Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Hey guys, BrickHammer here, I have recently created another historic themed MOC for Lego Ideas: the "Legoredo Stagecoach". I tried to combine the historic aethetics of Wild West stagecoaches with LEGO's more colourful classic Wild West look. I originally had intended to include 6 minifigs (2 employees and 4 passengers) but LEGO moderates forced me to reduce the number to 4. I hope you like the build and I appreciate both your feedback and your support :) https://ideas.lego.com/projects/e066297b-7595-4064-a4a8-344fb8abc988 Quote
JintaiZ Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Amazing! Looks like it's gathering support very fast! Quote
MAB Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 It looks nice and will no doubt get votes from people that want more horses in small sets too. Is there any reason for the choice of windows, as those 1x1x2 haven't been used for about 40 years? The front axle also looks a bit static, compared to the LR one LEGO did at the same scale: Quote

I chose two use the window pieces because that's as close as I could get to the different variations of small windows that historic stage coaches had next to the main windows. Which pieces do you think would work better? Thank you for your feedback about the steering: I agree that a static axle is not ideal but I don't that it really matters for a vehicle that small. I mainly chose to build it that way so I did not have to elevate the cabin so far above the wheels. I think the height of the LEGO one makes it look goofy. (Fun fact: I was not even aware that LEGO had ever done a stagecoach before until someone told me about it in the comment section of this LEGO Ideas submission). Which one do you like better? Mine or the Lone Ranger one? Edited March 9, 2021 by BrickHammer Quote
Alexandrina Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 I'm a simple woman. I see a well-designed Western set, I swoon for it! The callback to the town of Legoredo is appreciated - as is the presence of a civilian. Lego never really did that with their Western range, so this would be a lovely little addition to fill that gap. You can count on my support - I hope to see this in the next review! Quote
1974 Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 TLG even made on in the mid 70's that could have used those windows Quote
caiman0637 Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Looks nice! Supported! Ironic that they wouldn't let you use more than four minifigures, while their somewhat similar version has five. Quote

I hadn't even noticed the windows! It would actually unironically be nice to see the old windows - that size and the others - make a return. They're better pieces imo than the more modern windows. (Is a piece from 1981 still 'modern'?) Quote
Sarophas Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Supported! For someone who really enjoyed Red Dead Redemption 2, this hits the spot! I can't say that I'm generally a western fan, but seeing builds like this do make want more Quote
zoth33 Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 Really nice stagecoach. I like the color scheme and design. Figs look great too. Quote

Yes it really makes no sense at all... but I am still happy with the four minifigs I could include :) On 3/10/2021 at 4:53 AM, zoth33 said: Really nice stagecoach. I like the color scheme and design. TheLegoDr Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 This looks great. The colors really pop! I think if it was to get chosen, they wouldn't bring back those windows. I'm thinking a 1x2x2 panel would work. While these windows look better, I think they'd have to retool something. I don't know if they'd decline it automatically because of a piece like that. Otherwise, looks great. I recently was getting back into Western LEGO and was thinking of building a small town. A stagecoach is obviously on the list and I am impressed with the creativity here. Yes you are right the old windows are very unlikely to come back and I don't really know if using these windows would impact LEGO's descision making. However, even though I am quite active on LEGO Ideas I do not really think of things like that when I build. I simply build for fun and every once in a while I like one of my projects so much that I just have to submit it to the Ideas page. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 It makes me think, you are from Germany. How is the "WIld West" depicted there? Obviously being USA centric entertainment here, I am aware of western ideas. But in other countries I have zero knowledge on how the mid to late 1800s would be depicted. They'd have the same technology as we would have had. Seems like an interesting thought. Quote

Well, the German perception of the "Wild West" is or at least used to be (before popular movies and games like RDR) massively influenced by the works of the German author Karly May.(1842-1912). Up to this day he is still one of Germany's best selling authors. His novels sold over 200 million times. I am not quite sure how well known he is globally. He claimed to have travelled to America several times and all his novels appear to be autobiographical. In reality he made it all up and has never visited America even once. His stories are all rather stereotypical but his fictional native American hero "Winnetou" is still considered the typical native American in Germany up until today. He heavily focused on "typical" native American virtues like bravery and honour. In general the depiction doesn't seem to be that different from the American one though.
