chlego Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 This is a project I've been working on lastly: a 1:8 McLaren Senna I do quite like WIP topics, to see how things are created, so I decided to create one myself. For now, the features are: Steering Working fake V8 with a 4-speed sequential gearbox 90° stepper (thanks so much, @Didumos69) Full double-wishbone suspension Adjustable suspension/ride height (thank you @T Lego and @Jeroen Ottens for your help), this will require some rework though. For now, I finished the chassis, let me know what you think of it. I'm sorry for the bad quality pictures, some better ones may come later on. Quote
LvdH Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Nice work so far. I will definitely look forward to any progress. Quote

XenoRad Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 So far so good but now, with starting on the body the fun (hard?) part starts. What color are you planning on building it in? Or perhaps you've already set your mind on using some parts which only come in one or two colors? Quote

Definitely hard 41 minutes ago, XenoRad said: What color are you planning on building it in? Orange, since it is the only colour where I really have enough parts to build it. As for the real thing: black as a contrasting colour. Not sure about the interior, probably black. Quote
XenoRad Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 (edited) Well, good luck then. You definitely have a lot of part types in orange. Happy building. Edited February 12, 2021 by XenoRad Quote
langko Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Looking good so far! Excited to see how the body work comes together. I’m working on something else atm but I plan on reworking my senna afterwards. Now that I have a bit more building experience I want to try a squash more functions into it. One thing I would say though, 7 stud (if I’m counting correctly) centre column is widdde for this car. In real life the seats are almost next to each other. Quote

I am thinking about replacing it with a HOG gear changer (as on yours), but I'm not sure yet. Quote

And I couldn’t fit paddle shifters because of the way I did the doors... Hopefully I’ll rectify that in version 2. I know the stepper can fit in a 5 stud wide centre column. Maybe try that? Quote
Alex Ilea Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 Looks really good, keep up the good work! Quote

The problem is that it wouldn't be hidden or out of view, that would make the interior even uglier. 28 minutes ago, IA creations said: Looks really good, keep up the good work! Thanks! Quote
chlego Posted February 15, 2021 Author Posted February 15, 2021 Quick update about what happened this weekend: Started working on the dash and the nose Reworked the suspension, and added a video. I want to adjust the ride height through one of the exhaust holes, with an axle and a gear. Does anyone know if the black 3x13 panel is available in black on Pick a Brick? And if yes, how can I find it? Quote
JintaiZ Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Great progress so far! Looking forward to see how it turns out. Quote

I'm sorry for not posting lately: something happened which didn't allow me to do continue building, but I continued and may post this weekend. Quote
chlego Posted June 29, 2021 Author Posted June 29, 2021 So it has been some time, but I didn't give up! For now, I have reworked the front axle (will post pictures soon) and I am building an 8-speed gearbox without these orange parts. Quote
Scoar Sonander Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 I know I'm late to the party, but somehow Lego managed to slip past a 7-stud wide center column on the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, so in yours I would say an either 3 or 5 stud wide column would be the best. Maybe because of space reasons this wouldn't be the easiest change, but ill see how it goes! Good luck! Quote

I also hate the huge central column, and this is why I decided to remove the stepper, also to be closer to the original car. I'll go for a rotary thing or similar and will place it very discretely in the cabin. If possible, I'd also like to make a HOG shifter. Quote
Scoar Sonander Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 (sadly) I have loads of experience with these steppers not fitting due to rubber bands and all that. The easiest way to do it is with knob wheels, or so I think. I am looking forward to seeing the final product! Quote
