Hello everyone!

I just signed up because I recently started using LDD and I ran into some problems that, surely, some of you are already familiar with and therefore you could advise me how to solve them. I apologize in advance for any boring or poorly written requests, just asking for some help for me as a beginner.

A few years ago I was using ldd 4.3.5, while now I have installed 4.3.12 even if in the information panel it says 4.3.11. Here are my problems:

1) Internet access

When I start LDD it tells me that it cannot connect to the internet. I checked the firewall and it looks fine to me; I think it now only works offline and the error is normal. It's true?

2) Pieces database

The info panel tells me "brick version = 777". Does this database need to be updated? How do you update it? I remember that in "my" old LDD 4.3.5 the version was higher.

3) Problem with opening lxf

I tried to download some lxf from eurobricks but when I open them it tells me: "xx bricks could not be loaded and have been removed". How is this problem solved?

4) LDD or Studio?

Should I go on with LDD or should I use Studio? Are both compatible?

5) Other tips

Do you have any advice for someone like me who has just entered the world of LDD?

Thanks, bye and have a nice day.

1 and 2 (and 3): you installed the broken 4.3.12.

See

there’s a link to the installer for the “older” but not broken real 4.3.11 and solutions to install it on Windows 10.

4. It’s mainly a matter of taste, and parts availability.  Studio can import and export LDD files, with a few errors.  You can also use other tools to convert the files to LDraw (which Studio can import better).  See

Thank you so much, your help was precious.

1-2-3 fixed

4 I keep going with LDD, for now

5 I'm gonna read it soon

I've another question....

Can I use both LDD and LDD extended in the same project?

Yes.  The mode just affects the UI.  Which mode was last used is stored in the LXF, so when you open a file, it defaults to that mode.  But you can change the mode anytime with the menu View | New themes.

When the “normal” mode was still more or less up-to-date, I used to go back and forth between the modes many times.  Now, “normal” is so outdated that staying in Extemded is simpler.  You get used to it.  (In the last official updates, the new parts were not available in “normal” and the colour availability were already all wrong.  That was two and a half years ago….)

I get it. Thank you again.

My first job was simple: model 75890 (the car I gifted to my kid). Just to make practice. Now I go for to the Millenium Falcon.

Nice car. But looks like a big step to go to Millenium Falcon - Enjoy :) !

Thanks. I've been building the MF for a week. Almost 2000 bricks used so far. Currently ON HOLD :)

I have another question: I saw this thread:

and I'd like to know if I should add those new parts in my LDD 4.3.11 database.

Could it happen that someone will non be able to open my files or viewing all the brick I used in the project?

Thank you

Yes, if the person opening your file does not have the latest bricks (used in your model), they will see the message "x parts have been removed from your model".
