LegoHobbitFan Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 A vignette I made for the 12x12 vignette category of the SymmerJoust, set in Avalonia. Quote
deraven Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 Very nice! NPU on the brooms for awning support, and the basket for another tier of goods is a nice detail, too! Plenty of other nice details and techniques to enjoy in such a small build. It's great! Quote
Grover Posted July 14, 2020 Posted July 14, 2020 What a great vig! I love the whole thing from top to bottom, and you managed to pack in a lot of detail in a small build! The angled front of the white building is brilliant, and you use the olive green to great effect. The detail work on the sand green building is outstanding with the curved slopes and cheese wedges as well. The flipper pieces (or whatever they're called) for the thatched roof looks great, and the market stall, as pointed out by @deraven, looks awesome with the brooms, which are subtle but very nice. The upside down wall with the treasure chest lids as food crates looks great. The slightly uneven cobblestone path is one of the better ones I've seen, and I like the carrot tops for grass in the back. A very enjoyable scene, and I wouldn't change a thing! Great job, and welcome to the guilds! Quote
(Luc)ky Luke Posted July 14, 2020 Posted July 14, 2020 Great! I especially like the details at the bottom around the market. I only don't know how you attached those brooms, or did you use bricks but upside down? Quote

I have to assume it's not a "legal" connection as I don't know that 1x2 plate-sized piece has walls thin enough to fit the broom bristles. I think you could maybe force them into the bottom of a regular plate or tile, but... Quote

Those are definitely just regular 1x2 plates upside down; you can see a faint glimmer of a One Ring at the base to invert the stud direction. I’ve never tried putting a broom into a plate, but it looks like it fits! Getting them apart again, given that both elements are reddish brown, might be a challenge, at least without breaking them... The vignette looks great, and I love that it’s Avalonian. The only thing that I would suggest is trying to get a half stud offset (or one plate, or whatever) between the wooden beams and the white and olive plaster, since usually the trim would stick out a bit further than the wall. But that’s a minor quibble in an otherwise lovely MOC! Quote
deraven Posted July 14, 2020 Posted July 14, 2020 Just now, Henjin_Quilones said: I’ve never tried putting a broom into a plate, but it looks like it fits! You can force it in, yes, but given the amount of force required it's definitely not "legal" to do it that way, so I was just wondering if there was another trick to it that wasn't obvious... because it's a great looking feature! I didn't mention it before, but it's also an interesting use of the curved slope in the sand green part of the building above the stall. Not sure about those grill tiles as shutters, but as Henjin_Quilones said, these things are just minor differences in preference and the fact that there's so much to talk about in this small build is impressive in itself. socalbricks Posted July 14, 2020 Posted July 14, 2020 Welcome to Avalonia! There are some truly gorgeous techniques on display here! I especially love the use of the treasure chest lids and the broom! The whole build is wonderfully detailed without feeling cluttered! Great work! Quote
Kai NRG Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 I hadn't noticed the brooms, but now that others are mentioning them, very creative parts use and connection. Do they fit well, or does it put some stress on the bricks? Also nice little awning with the stud-bar tan pieces. Quote
