Corweena Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 (edited) This build marks the start of a multi-part story, which will dive into the past of Corwin Ragnarsson, and uncover some of his motivations for his arrival in Terra Nova. A Tale of Revenge: Part 1: The Day the World Stood Still <--- You are here Part 2: Heretic! Part 3: Baptism of Fire Part 4: Casting a Wide Net Part 5: Ghosts of Days Past Part 6: A Blood Soaked Symphony _______________________________________________________________________________ Not much is known about the history and origin of Corwin Ragnarrson, other than this. His father, Ragnar, was a Vikendi trader of the Amarok clan from the great white North, who made his way across the continent to trade with the peoples of Halos. On one such trip into Oleon, he met Patricia, the daughter of a prominent Naval Captain. Their friendship soon grew to love, yet societal constraints meant they could never be together. So they devised a plan to elope, were married in secret, and escaped into the countryside away from prying eyes and anyone that would know Patricia or her family. A year later, they welcomed a son into the world, who they named Corwin. They lived a modest life in the country, and were happy. During the reign of King Stéphan II, the Order of the Faith enjoyed great power and influence in Oleon. While most clerics enjoyed the wealth and respect the Order offered them during this time, the more fanatical among them found power by a different means....fear. They traveled the country, seeking out those suspected of sorcery, witchcraft, paganism, and another other grievance they could justify. More often than not, the accused were given a sham trial, and when found guilty were summarily executed. Among these fanatics was Gerard Bertrand, a cold evil man, who found pleasure in his work or finding and executing those who would not submit to the Order. Year 599AE, Somewhere in the countryside of Oleon It is a beautiful summer day in Oleon. The family has traveled to the local lake to spend the day together. Ragnar and Patricia stand together watching young Corwin frolic in the water, catching frogs. While he plays, they lay out a blanket, and enjoy a meal on the shore. Suddenly, out of the brush step a group of men, heading directly for the family. Leading the group are two men in robes, showing them as clerics of the Order of the Faith. Following behind are three soldiers. Patricia, seeing the group first, turns pale, and stammers "o-o-oh no" Ragnar stands up, and turning to the group of men, sternly states "what is the meaning of this? Who are you, and why have you come here?" The cleric leading the group, a sneer on his face, says to Ragnar "you are Ragnar the foreigner are you not?", to which Ragnar replies "I am Ragnar Halfdan, of the Amarok Tribe from the land of Vikendia." The cleric turns to the Sergeant, who says "Ragnar Halfdan, you are wanted for the kidnapping of a citizen of Oleon" Shocked, Patricia looks at the Sergeant "if it is me he kidnapped, I assure you tha-" "Furthermore..." cut in the cleric "I Gerard Bertrand, as a sworn servant of the Order, and protector of the Faith, do hereby accuse you of paganism, for worshiping your false gods, and for attempting to force your beliefs on citizens of the empire. You are hereby under arrest, and will be tried for these crimes" The Sergeant pulled out a pair of shackles, and looking at Ragnar said "for the sake of the woman and the boy, make this easy". Ragnar looked at his family, and held out his hands for the irons. The Sergeant turned to the other soldiers, and said "grab the woman and the boy". With that, the group turned and began to make their way away from the lake, towards whatever unknown events that may lie ahead. Looking back, Corwin would think of this as the day his life as he knew it began to change, as the Day the World Stood Still. To be continued..... Edited February 20 by Corweena Quote

Thomas Waagenaar Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 That was a really enjoyable read! Can't wait for the other parts! :) Quote
blackdeathgr Posted June 28, 2020 Posted June 28, 2020 (edited) Nice and interesting read. I assure you though that all these are preposterous lies. Oleon values a good picknick so we would have let you finish first, then arrest you! Long live our pious and benevolet ruler! Down with the heretics (and stuff) Edited June 28, 2020 by blackdeathgr Quote
Bodi Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 Luke's arresting his master's master. Nice build, and intriguing story. Looking forward to the next episode. Quote
