ScT Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 (edited) Hey, hope this topic is allowed. :) My son is going crazy after seeing the Liebherr set (42100) as he's wanted a Lego Excavator for a while (every time he see's one outside, or see's a lego bucket that could fit one). However, that set is immense, and he's rather young. Is the Lego group currently making any smaller excavator/digger models? For example, a few that look fairly decent were 8455 & at a push, 8043. I've tried browsing around, but don't see anything similar unfortunately. These old sets in boxes are extremely expensive too, so no go on picking up an old one that someone's selling off. Any ideas? If it were me, i'd just get a second-hand one, or order parts, but i want to give him the full magical-opening-the-box experience he deserves for an upcoming birthday. :) EDIT: I just realised if i could source a box, and get the parts elsewhere that could work too, as a last resort... hmm. aeh5040 Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 A few resources that might help: All technic excavators (possibly missing the last couple of years): http://technicopedia.com/excavators.html Everything currently sold by LEGO is at shop.lego.com I assume you know about www.bricklink.com? You might get what you want cheaper than you expect there, and you can also boxes, instruction manuals, etc. Quote
ScT Posted June 23, 2020 Author Posted June 23, 2020 That is a cool website, saw one on there that i never knew existed! Looks like it's the case that there are no currently produced smaller ones though, that's a shame. I know about Bricklink, but the sets i'm interested in are of course expensive there too :D Might be good for boxes and instructions though! Quote

ScT Posted June 23, 2020 Author Posted June 23, 2020 I completely agree! I have a bucket from 42055 - ordered as a curiousity a while ago, but didn't do much with it yet. Quote
anyUser Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 (edited) There is a nice excavator on Rebrickable: see: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-1312/yannmar/motorized-hydraulic-excavator respectively https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-14261/jb70/red-excavator/ (Track base is from me. It can be swapped easily.) Edited June 24, 2020 by anyUser Quote
Rudivdk Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 How about set 8294? It's not really big, but a fun set that can also be easily motorized. It is a nice start into these kind of machines. Should not be too expensive to get a secondhand one even with instructions and box... Quote
ScT Posted June 24, 2020 Author Posted June 24, 2020 I made a decision this morning to go with 8294 - so thanks for that! I found a good second hand set, with instructions, and have managed to source a box (i think!). So this can be a great present in the end. I have a spare Power Functions set too - so i can throw that in, and make it something truly special. Thanks everyone for your help! 2 hours ago, anyUser said: There is a nice excavator on Rebrickable: ... That is really cool! However i was dead-set on getting an "official" model, with box, etc. This looks really interesting though, maybe for a fun side project :D Quote

trinitechnic Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 I just want to say that this was a genuinely heartwarming little thread to read; really nice to see us help one another and really happy to hear another young one being introduced to technic. Best wishes to all of you. Quote
