Mod of 42025 (cargo plane) with multi-directional gearbox?

Sorry to be asking rather than offering/demonstrating! But has anyone done a mod of the 42025 cargo plane to give it four bidirectional switches for the four functions (like 42042 gearbox), rather than two switches for four functions as in the official model? My young children are desperate to play with this model, but are endlessly confused/frustrated by the controls, and I'm not sure I have the expertise to design the mod myself. (although I would happily lose hours I don't have trying to...)
