astral brick Posted May 22, 2020 Posted May 22, 2020 Summarizing: - WeDo 2.0 - Spike Prime - Mindstorms Ev3 I believe that, since their introduction, automation and then coding were supposed to represent the natural evolution of Technic, however they ended to be confined in the educational niche. Moreover, wouldn't have been better, on a marketing level, to avoid the fragmentation in three themes? I understand that there are different ages and costs but I think that Lego could have stuck with only one sub-brand, whatever it was, then proceeding to diversify. A single sub-brand would have increased the exposure, hence the sales. Confusing marketing, wasted opportunities. Quote
Coder Shah Posted May 22, 2020 Posted May 22, 2020 As far as I can tell every product in the world does this. Let's say you want a Mercedes-Benz. Want something to go to the shops and back? Get an A-class. Want a compact executive sedan? Get a C-class. Want a limousine? S-class. Advantage to Mercedes Benz? They get to sell three cars instead of one. Or using LEGO as an example, very young children get Duplo, slightly older children get Juniors and the rest gets regular LEGO. Feel free to discuss. Quote
Tcm0 Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 Just a note: it's far worse in the non-educational region. Power Functions Powered Up Boost Control+ Mindstorms (and the duplo train that uses the bluetooth protocol, too) probably the mario hub Quote
dr_spock Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 On the other hand, they seem to be standardizing on the 6 pin connector with their recent stuff. Quote

However you can use the Boost Proximty Sensor to send commands to it. Powered Up, Boost and Control+ are all programmable using the Powered Up app, and LEGO plans to support that for the foreseeable future. If I'm not mistaken the Spike Prime motors and sensors are too. Mindstorms will be retired soon. Possibly the replacement is retail version of SPIKE Prime. I don't know. So it seems to me, going forward, all LEGO smart platforms (Powered Up, Boost, Control+ and possibly SPIKE Prime) will all be programmable using the Powered Up app, and possibly Micropython later once PyBricks becomes available. https://pybricks.com/about/ Anyway, I value your thoughts. Powered Up doesn't support SPIKE yet and I wonder when it will support the hub because that uses another type of bluetooth connection. The motors work but probably only because they work exactly like the other ones. SPIKE Sensors are not supported (yet). Quote
