I'm trying to gear the motors up before the joints and gear them down again at the axles to minimize the stress on them. Quote
amorti Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 (edited) "Not much" It'll depend on how the suspension and steering are built as to what angles you're asking the joints to work at, as well as how much torque is being put through them. Build it and see how you go. If no good, try rebuilding with the CV joints from 42099 which will wear but not fail catastrophically. If that's no good, consider RC universal joints. You can get joints for a 4mm shaft which have just under 8mm outer diameter and just under 24mm length = a close match for Lego. Drill them to 4.8mm and you're good to go.
