Go-Kart Posted April 14, 2020 Author Posted April 14, 2020 What is the length of the CV joint? Are male plus the non-axle female part 3L or 3.5L? I don't own this part yet and bricklink does not list the size for these parts. I'm thinking on replacing the in-line meshing between the differential and the bevel gear by using either the new 3L differential of the Top Gear car or the old 4L differential fight with the 15 studs limit. Thanks! Quote

kolbjha Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 Not my intention to reopen the discussion regarding connection between half pins and Tecnic triangles, but in my opinion it must be considered legal. If I remember correctly, the same technique was used at least for the 8868. If the method is used in official models, I guess it's fair to say it's legal. Ok, I realize that the 3/4 pin was introduced in 1995 (three years after the 8868), but I think my point is still valid. Quote

Check also this presentation: https://www.hellobricks.com/pdf/jamieberard-brickstress-bf06.pdf My interpretation from this is that connecting half-pin to a Technic hole is legal within TLG but even if it weren't, it's completely irrelevant for this contest as the rules don't forbid connections that TLG considers illegal. Totally agree that it's irrelevant for TC18 My only intention was only to point out that even TLG has used this connection. And thanks for an interesting article on brick stress Edited April 15, 2020 by kolbjha Quote
Go-Kart Posted April 25, 2020 Author Posted April 25, 2020 Our engineers at the VEB Sachsenring motor company worked hard to improve the engine and transmission layout. All questionable bevel gears are removed. With the removed slack and friction our customers can now use the full 26 horse powers! We also prepared a routing for the HOP (Hand of the Party) steering. However, the capitalist system is slow in delivering the old 4L differential. Quote
1980SomethingSpaceGuy Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 Good job! I think it's a lot cleaner now. I'm a big fan of the HOP idea! Quote
