Features of this car are a mix from the 42110 Land Rover and the 8297 Off Roader.

  • 4WD with central differential
  • 4-speed sequential gearbox with V8 engine
  • hi-lo selector and D-N-R switch (mechanism of 42110)
  • HOG steering
  • adjustable height suspension (mechanism similar to 8297)
  • winch (mechanism under the hood is similar to 42110)
  • opening hood and back door

I built the original, fully motorized version of this MOC last year, but I was disappointed with its performance. Partly worked, partly not. The main problem was, that I have no original Lego motors, because they are too expensive. But the Chinese ones are not so good. The servos could not return correctly to the center position, so both steering and shifting failed many times. So I decided to rebuild the whole chassis to manual, while keeping the body unchanged.

The first videos of the 42110 Land Rover came out during the rebuild process, where I realized, that my 4 speed gearbox is the exact same construction as the Land Rover has. However the Land Rover had a hi-lo selector and a D-N-R switch. There was a lot of free space in the chassis, so I added it.

Great model and ingenious use of the mudguards! :wub_drool:

(Is that orange? I seem to be getting more and more colourblind by the day.)

Not OP, but yes, orange for the cabin and most of the hood, then white/grey/black for other areas.

Lego or CADA, as they say over here: poor man cooks with water. Great MOC - looks good, very nice technical solutions, You can be proud of it! :classic:

Technically very good job, but that CaDa (?) tires and rims feel slightly wrong, but on the other hand, the hook in front looks good. Where does it come from?

I'm afraid, there everything is not lego.

It's true, the wheels and the hook are not genuine lego parts, but everything else are true lego.

The rims and tires are CaDa. I have the equivalent lego rims, but don't have the tires. Actually I prefer the look of these rims and tires over the genuine lego parts. Other builders are also using 3rd party rims and tires, so I think it's OK. I'm not that much purist.

The red metal hook is a model car part. My brother is racing in trial championships, and he gave me the hook. When I first showed the car to my parents and to my brother, I had no string, and there was no hook on the winch. So my mother gave the white thread, and my brother gave the red hook. Originally I wanted to use the gray lego hook, but this red hook matched to the color scheme of the car and looked so good that I kept it.
