jus1973 Posted March 21, 2020 Posted March 21, 2020 I’m mostly a set builder, but my aim is to be more of a MOC builder over time. I’ve purchased quite a lot of sets from all sorts of ranges, when discounted to build up a stash of elements and bricks, that either get built once and then dismantled or never get built at all. Of the sets I’ve built to keep, these tend to be creator expert sets, or the similar ones from Lego Ideas and one off display sets like GBHQ and stranger things etc. Quote
hagridshut Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 Both. I have some sets for display purposes. I also have a lot of loose bricks and pieces from old sets that I take out occasionally to build random MOCs for entertainment. Even with my display sets though, I'm not a pure Set Builder. I like to tweak sets by adding features or playing around with the color schemes. Quote
Paradosis Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 A usually don't buy sets just for parts, but rather because I'd like to put it together. However, once that's been done, and perhaps displayed a while (a month, a year... it depends) then I consider it fair game in making MOCs. It's enough for me to know that somewhere in the big mix of a collection it still exists, and can be put back together if I ever wanted to do so. I will say though that this has become more difficult in recent years, as sets have gotten larger and larger (compared to sets from my youth in the 80s/90s). Quote
MasterTyvokka Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 Mostly sets for me. Actually, I don't think I've built any MOCs since I was a kid. But I've got some good MOC ideas so it is time to change that. Quote
