Dovchenko Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 If you haven't read Brick's now closed topic about new Harry Potter sets, let me tell you now how great it would be to have some HP back. 2007 was the end- Umbridge, Death Eater, and a great new Snape, along with great thestrals, a wonderful castle and finally, the greenhouse. Along with the generic figures. I haven't seen this is real life or built it (see my wimpy thread about my cousin) and haven't heard much press or anything at all about this set. It looks perfect! Non <insert that tiresome argument> and classical, despite the use of Scala. I'm wondering if it's worth buying. It's a year old now, it sounds just plain dumb to get. But I bought the Temple Escape and, honestly, felt pretty sour. I wish I had just waited for the big temple for Crystal Skull, along with the amphibious vehicle... or better yet, the Castle. It's never too late to buy anything, but the Temple of Akator looks just as nice. Maybe if new HP sets were out, it would be easier. So... boiling it down... is it worth getting? Should I invest over a hundred in the castle? Or hold off yet again and buy that temple? I don't know about the temple, but I've liked that HP for a while. On the other hand, it's old news compared to the Indy sets. Any ideas? Quote
Dadster Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Well - HP+OotP Castle is about $15-$20 more and doesn't seem to be selling out. If it were me, I'd get the new Indy Temple. With the movie coming out next week, it being a neat-looking new set, and the cost, I'd definitely go with Indy. Indy was adventuring looong before Harry. Quote
MrCustomizer Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 (edited) Well I have all of the classic indy sets and the HP castle, and I suggest the HP castle. Don't get me wrong, the Indiana Jones sets are awesome! But the Harry Potter comes out on top in my opinion. Very detailed, and the green house rocks! Plus the only reason I would get the new temple are for the minifigs, monkey heads, and the cool waterfall sticker. Edited May 8, 2008 by MrCustomizer Quote
The Brick Rat Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I own both sets and would heartily recommend the HP castle over the Crystal Skull Temple. The Temple is a good parts pack with great colors, but I found the build rather boring and it's one of the poorest large playsets LEGO has ever released (IMO). Minifigwise, the 3 main characters can be found in the Jungle Duel set and the Russian guard in both medium sized sets. I love the Ugha warriors, but found the skellies to be rather...eh (YMMV). The Hogwarts castle is also a great parts pack and I also found it to be a fun build. It also has (as you noted) Prof. Umbridge, a new Deatheater, a great new Snape and some cool Mandrake minifig heads. The ever present Harry, Ron and Hermione are here, but that's understandable seeing that it was the only HP set released for OotP. My only objection to the minifigs were the inclusion of Dumbledore and Hagrid. It would have been nice to get Luna Lovegood and Prof. Sprout (to go with the excellent greenhouse) instead. So. If you can find the HP castle for a decent price I would get it now. The Crystal Skull Temple will be around for a while, but the castle will only become more scarce and expensive on the secondary market. Well - HP+OotP Castle is about $15-$20 more and doesn't seem to be selling out. Really, Dadster? Where are you seeing them. They've been gone from USA S@H for a while now and I haven't seen any on store shelves in my neck of the woods for a good 6 months. Quote
