E1M1 Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 hey does anyone of you know how long it takes on average until lego ucs exclusive sets like the new star destroyer hit the regular street markets and get good discounts? Quote
jdubbs Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Most D2C (direct to consumer) sets like the UCS Falcon, Hogwarts Castle, modular buildings, etc. are sold exclusively at LEGO for the first 3 months, after which they are available at select third-party retailers (Amazon, ToysRUs, etc.). A few remain LEGO exclusives forever (like the Disney castle, I believe). It's very rare for these retailers to mark down the D2C sets in their first year of availability; it has happened only once or twice that I can remember, mostly at TRU when they were in the throes of dying. Typically these sets only get marked down when they are close to retirement, which usually comes 18-24 months after a set is first made available. Some have speculated that retailers are contractually prohibited from marking down larger sets for a certain period of time, since the other $100+ sets rarely get marked down in their first year of availability either.
