ks6349 Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 I've got a number of Lego city sets of recent years from different sources. They are probably for different markets because some states the number of pieces while the other do not, and some with Chinese or Asian like characters while the other do not. I found that boxes without number of pieces usually more shiny like polished, while those with number of pieces are less shiny. Do you find the same issue? I don't have the same set from different sources to compare but they are also the recent City set. Or is it just different due to a different set and have nothing to do with the market? Quote
deraven Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 From what I have seen, the boxes seem to have the same outer appearance as far as the finish/look goes within the same market, with the printed information on the box differing by market. I would imagine that most markets have consistent packaging in both physical look and information on the box, so perhaps all the sets in the Chinese market have a shiny finish, most in the USA are more matte, etc., but withing those regions the look is consistent. I used to see some variation in the packaging for the Ideas sets, but that seems to have evened out with the last several releases, at least here in the US. Quote

I've got two sets for example. 60219 (No number of pieces) and 60184 (Yes number of pieces bought in USA), the touch and feel of the outer box is a huge difference. Quote
AmperZand Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 (edited) I have the US and European boxes of 70841 Benny's Space Squad. I bought the former from a LEGO store in the US and the latter from a department store in the UK. The US box has more text on the front with the words 'Ages/edades' above '5+', the set's name in French and Spanish in addition to English, the number of pieces and a boxed choking hazard warning. To accommodate the warning, two of the astronaut minifigures and one of the vehicles are pictured further back and therefore smaller. The information and imagery on the left and right ends of the boxes are swapped around. On the top side of the box, the European one has an age warning symbol and the name of the set in various European languages. The US one does not. The European one indicates the minifigure's scale with '1:1'; the US one says 'actual size', 'dimension réelle' and 'tamaño real'. The base of the boxes are the same except for different bar-codes and the European one says where the components are made. The lustre of the boxes is the same, but the shade of blue is a bit more violet in the US. The dimensions of the boxes are the same. Edited August 12, 2019 by AmperZand Quote
dr_spock Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 North America boxes have different labeling requirements such as part count. There are 3 languages on NA boxes. Other regions have more languages printed on the box. They aren't required to put on the part count. Sets can be packaged in different regions. There can be variations based on the local supply chain for box material and print inks. Quote
