JackBloomer5 Posted February 16, 2019 Author Posted February 16, 2019 As a side note, majority of the beginning of the build will be black because it helps me think better. Quote
1gor Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 Don't worry about black; even Henry Ford once said that it does not matter what color his cars are as long as they are black Quote
Johnny1360 Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Great to see you are making progress, I really need to get some more of those suspension arms. Looking forward to seeing how you pull off the front end. What part of Indy are you from? It was good to see them talking about the race on the news last night, reminds me that May is just around the corner. Quote
JackBloomer5 Posted February 17, 2019 Author Posted February 17, 2019 I am from Danville, just west of Indianapolis. I am currently leaving oversees though. Can wait for the IndyCar season to start especially considering that Mike Tirico is hosting the 500 Quote
JackBloomer5 Posted February 18, 2019 Author Posted February 18, 2019 Here’s a start to the front. I’m might change the white panels but I don’t know yet. The bottom picture is a shock rocker (connects to pushrod and spring) I am considering running in the model Quote
JackBloomer5 Posted February 22, 2019 Author Posted February 22, 2019 Small update, I’ve been working on the front end and have the shocks in-laid in the car. I ended up using @RoscoPC‘s front wheel hubs from his Williams FW14B model. I will likely join the front and rear ends tomorrow sometime and work on getting wheelbase, right. I’ll put pictures of that if I get to it. Quote
JackBloomer5 Posted February 24, 2019 Author Posted February 24, 2019 I have run into a bunch of problems with the front end so I am going to start over from scratch on that part. The main problems were the pushrod and spring as well as general bodywork Quote
Johnny1360 Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 Sorry to hear that, was looking forward to seeing your solution, as I said before that was the section that gave me the most grief and ultimately made me postpone the model indefinitely. Hopefully you don't give up, although at some point you just have to say enough. The biggest problem I had was making the bodywork as narrow as it needed to be, while still maintaining a stout suspension and proper wheel width. Quote
JackBloomer5 Posted March 3, 2019 Author Posted March 3, 2019 I have redesigned the front from the ground up but am still struggling with the bodywork. The steering is really good and the suspension itself is more on the soft side but isn't too bad.I ned a lot of help with the bodywork. Speaking of which I did have a small parts order (mainly pieces I already have but in black) and I bought a light brick to use in the rear of the car. I should have the pieces on friday on this week. I will be working on the model a lot over the next 3 days because i have Monday-Wednesday off from school. Quote
JackBloomer5 Posted March 5, 2019 Author Posted March 5, 2019 Yesterday was a good day. Got the chassis pretty close to done so now I can start working on the bodywork and the nosecone (biggest challenge of this build). Wheelbase is about a stud too long and the height is almost perfect but I might lower it by a stud. Quote
JackBloomer5 Posted March 22, 2019 Author Posted March 22, 2019 Sorry about lack of progress and pictures the last two weeks. Kind of hit a wall and I’m struggling with the body work. I do have the nose done and front suspension as fixed as I can get it. Quote
letsbuild Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 Wow, that is quite the progress. It's looking great. Keep up the work! Quote
JackBloomer5 Posted March 27, 2019 Author Posted March 27, 2019 Thanks @letsbuild. I'm considering trying to add a built-in pneumatic jack just like the real car. What do you guys think? Quote
captainmib Posted March 27, 2019 Posted March 27, 2019 Why is the engine so far forward in the last pic? Pneumatic jack: try it. Is there a gearbox? Quote

It just happened that way and I’m thinking about how to move it backwards without really changing the panels I have arranged around it. There isn’t a gearbox because there simply isn’t enough room to add it along with paddle-shifting. Will try pneumatic jack this weekend. Quote
Johnny1360 Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Good to see you haven't thrown in the towel yet, it is a tough car to replicate with LEGO for sure. It looks to me as though the front wheelbase is wider than the rear or is that just an optical illusion? Now that May is just around the corner I might retry my skills at this project. Thanks for the inspiration and good luck with the body work. Quote

Thanks for the inspiration and good luck with the body work. Your right, the front wheels are a bit wide but I did the best I could do with the available pieces. The rear wheel width is perfect 1:8 scale so I don't want to change it to make it proportional to the front wheels. So yeah, only bodywork left and it should be done by mid to late April. Also I am glad that I was able to inspire you to start your build again. Can you send me some pictures of what your model's progress is, I'm interested in how different people approach the build of the same car. Quote
JackBloomer5 Posted March 29, 2019 Author Posted March 29, 2019 I’ve decided what specific car I will do. I’m going to do the 5 of James Hinchcliffe because I have the 42056 and the gold is the closest thing to the overwhelming abundance of orange panels that I have. Quote

Sure, I will try and remember, once I get started. I really do need to pick up some more of those control arms with the ball socket on the ends, I seem to remember not having near enough on my last attempt. Regardless I'm sure mine would be a much more simplified version of yours. I am looking forward for the track to open and the cars to start running, so I can get some good pictures in the pits, for reference. Edit: Good choice of drivers too, by the way, following your progress is really giving me the itch to get started. Edited March 30, 2019 by Johnny1360 Quote
letsbuild Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 Oh, Arrow's indycar! I love their livery, so I look forward to seeing how you tackle it! Quote
JackBloomer5 Posted April 2, 2019 Author Posted April 2, 2019 I’ll post a picture of the car as it is later today but the sidepods are proving to be extremely difficult. If anyone has any ideas for these parts please put them. I’m like totally lost with bodywork (chassis are what I like to build) Quote
JackBloomer5 Posted April 8, 2019 Author Posted April 8, 2019 This was just released and considering the parts I have it might be a better option. What you guys think? This is Fernando Alonso's color scheme for the 2019 Indy 500. Quote
1gor Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 Let's hope that it would be a winning car at 26.5.2019. I agree that orange moc would be very cool Quote
