Grimer Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 (edited) Good thing there was a tow truck, from the same era, available. (Car in the foreground is "Grimer's" electric, but it's not finished.) Edited April 17, 2008 by Grimer Quote
Tarfful Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Wow, that is indeed old! Great little scene you got there Grimer. BTW, exactly how old is Old Lorry, and was it an official set? Same goes for the tow truck. -Tarfful Quote
adik_sa_lego Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 oooooh classic wheels! i miss those studs... Quote
Grimer Posted April 17, 2008 Author Posted April 17, 2008 The lorry is 331, the tow truck 332. Both released in 1967. Box art shows grey tires, so either I replaced them with black long ago or the sets are newer than 1967 (those released in 1968 have black tires on the box art). The cabs are slightly too small to be minifig compatible. It's interesting how different the line up of vehicle sets in 67-70 was compared to now: One ambulance, one fire engine. (No police car at all.) One oldtimer car, one jeep. (No ordinary private car.) The rest is transportation: Two dump lorries (the above and one side dumper), a large van, one closed and one flatbed semi-trailer, one tow truck and one semi-trailer with crane plus maybe some I've forgotten. Asuka Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Oh, look.... they had car doors back then, and how beautiful they´re.... ....where did they go? Thanks for showing us these cool oldtimers, Grimer. Quote
xzanfr Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I really like the doors on the tow truck, the clear top section is very effective giving the appearance of having the window part wound down.(Looking at Peeron, they appear to have been discontinued in '73 which is a shame). They have a lot of play value with the steering etc and remind me of larger, pressed steel vehicles like dinky toys etc. It must have been an exciting time for a child in the late '60's to have a moving vehicle that you could rebuild and change. Perhaps TLC could 'copy' parts of the design and give us opening doors in the current 6-wide vehicles Quote
