ratmfan Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 hello! i was guided here by a review of one of my ships on MOCpages.com by Mister Phes, if i remember correctly. the thread is here: http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...=11&t=1149&st=0 sorry, i am horrible at HTML, so i just post straight links well, i have a few more ships i have built, and have posted about on Lugnet. i lurk there, and post every once in a while, so you may have seen these before. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery....y.cgi?m=ratmfan anyway, i also have an MOCpages page for all of these where you can read a bit more about them, but i cant post the link because i cannot get to their page due to heavy traffic. i work almost exclusively in the pirates theme, and strive for historical accuracy in my ships. i became interested in building ships by finding Richie Dulin's Port Brique and Richard Parsons' Port Block. anyway, just decided to join the community and share my creations! oh, i was pretty sure that this was the proper place to post this, but please move it wherever is necessary if it is not. ;) thanks! stephen rowe i also have other links to other's creations if you are interested. The Middleman Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I was JUST browsing your gallery after noticing you'd be lurking around for sometime... I particularly like the one with the slanted sides - very original, and it looks fantastic! Phes'll be tickled pink. Quote

Beautiful work! The scale is impressive and the MOCs have a 'natural' air to them... I lurk in .pirate on lugnet (I would post but I have no appropriate MOCs) as well and have seen your name... ;) Thanks for sharing, welcome, and God Bless, Nathan Quote
ratmfan Posted June 22, 2005 Author Posted June 22, 2005 thanks for the kind words everyone! unfortunately, this is all i have to show for now, though it is a large number of ships. i have hit a sort of wall in terms of creativity, and cant come up with a new design for a ship i want to built. kind of like Lego builder's block if you know what i mean. with my last ship, HMS Minotaur, i felt that i achieved almost exactly the look of a ship that i set out to achieve in the beginning. i cant figure out how to improve on my design, given the constraints i put on myself. i really want to build more, but cant figure out what. ideas? maybe i can get inspired ;) best, steve Quote
xwingyoda Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 hey ratmfan, First of all, let me welcome you to our friendly boards ;) What an introduction there :oD Those are absolutly magnificent creations !!!!!!! Your Frigate is just superb as well as the rest of your most impressive gallery ;) I got a great idea !!!! I forgot the name of the ship bit its was the first (or one of the first) steam boat !!!! It was all made of wood, had 2 huge mats and a copper chimney in between the mats !!!! It is such a great ship !!!! I'll post pics of it, if I can find it !!!! Please show us more !!!! Quote
ratmfan Posted June 22, 2005 Author Posted June 22, 2005 thanks for the welcome xwingyoda! thanks for the suggestion as well, but i work exclusively in tall ships, mostly men of war from 1750 or so to 1820. thought about doing a Bomb vessel, but have to figure out how to do the guns themselves. i have also thought about going bigger, but to do that, i would have to widen the hulls with inverse slopes, which would involve buying a large number of pieces, which i should not do right now. currently, my largest ships are 4 center sections long. i have made a 5 center section ship, but it seems too narrow. best, steve Quote
xwingyoda Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 ratmfan, Here are a couple of goods links for inspiration: Here you have a majority of USNaval ship sorted by name: http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/sh-usn/usn-name.htm I love the USS Chesapeake: http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/sh-usn/...-c/chesapke.htm Enjoy ;) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 22, 2005 Governor Posted June 22, 2005 hello! i was guided here by a review of one of my ships on MOCpages.com by Mister Phes, if i remember correctly. the thread is here: I was hoping you'd come here after reading it. :-D http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...=11&t=1149&st=0sorry, i am horrible at HTML, so i just post straight links No matter. I can edit them for you so the result looks something like this: What if the Blacks Seas Barracuda was bigger? well, i have a few more ships i have built, and have posted about on Lugnet. i lurk there, and post every once in a while, so you may have seen these before. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery....y.cgi?m=ratmfan anyway, i also have an MOCpages page for all of these where you can read a bit more about them, but i cant post the link because i cannot get to their page due to heavy traffic. I've seen some of the ships before, but I haven't seen the keep before. Its very impressive indeed! I've noticed its got castle mini-figures... I'm wondering how it would look if you substitued them with Imperial Guards and put it on a blue base with a couple of sand banks and palms. But that's just what I do... Look at a MOC and wonder what it would be like if it was "piratized". Its brilliant how it is though. i work almost exclusively in the pirates theme, and strive for historical accuracy in my ships. i became interested in building ships by finding Richie Dulin's Port Brique and Richard Parsons' Port Block. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh... The Pirate theme! That be where my heart is lying also... anyway, just decided to join the community and share my creations!oh, i was pretty sure that this was the proper place to post this, but please move it wherever is necessary if it is not. ;) thanks! stephen rowe i also have other links to other's creations if you are interested. Have you checked out the LEGO Castle & Pirates forum yet? There you will find more discussions about Pirate LEGO and links to more MOCs. In fact, I'll move this thread over there so it can be with its family! And, if you like, you can announce your arrival in the Hello! My name is... forum and let everyone else know you're here. Quote
