Here we go again.

After my threads on 7700 Grand Titan and 7701 Stealth Hunter alternatives, the time has now come for the robots to display their firepower.

Lets start of with a picture of Thunder Fury and its alternative Compact Thunder:

As with other of my alternatives, it has got an extra segment in each of the legs, to give the wide and low look. The legs are with "reverted knees" as I've seen used by others, and checking out the official alternative afterwards, I realised that mine is not that different.

The cockpit is completely enclosing the robot from all sides. From the top a roof is drawn foreward, via two joints. The first link (4x2 M beams) carries the sword and also activate the light brick. It also carries the 5M beams, which are attached to the roof at the other end. A 12 barreled canon is on top of the roof, and can be pointed upwards. The other weapons are attached at the upper leg link, so there are no "arms" at all.

Here is a view from the top, where sword-beam-roof mechanism has been rotated back, to open the cockpit. The dark grey 1x2 plate with center knob, is what activates the light brick.

After I got my second Fire Vulture (7703) I built the official alternative. This is a rather sturdy and nice design. The problem with it is that it does not use the big fan, the big part in this set, which sacrifice other parts while keeping same price point as the other sets (7700-7702). Now this fan is very cool, I have quite some, but it was a real let down to find out, that the inner and outer fans are working against each other. I really had some ideas about making several fans work in a motorised vehicle, driving something like a boat over water. I can only guess that the design is for product safety considerations. A fan like this would probably be able to fly rather rapidly through the air, after haven been spun to high rpm.

Here is the official alternative (found some good building instructions for it on brickshelf). I love the cockpit design, with parts rotating down over the robot, from both the fron and the back.

I disassemblied the official alternative, and now have made my own, which incorporates the fan into the design. I have named him the Vertical Vulture, because of the vertical axis of the fan. I borrowed some of the cockpit ideas from the official alternative though. Here it is with the official Fire Vulture:

Here it is seen from the back, a rather confusing and not so slick design. But functional. The light brick activation design is exactly as in my Crouched Titan, 7701.

The robot is enclosed from the sides by the bent liftarms, which at the front are connected to the base-plates with some of those 1x2 bricks with a center technic hole. At the rear the bent liftarms connect to the bionicle claws and further on the the 4x2 beams, that activate the light brick. I must admit I am not sure this build is perfect, and is not stretching(slightly misaligned).

If the fan can't make the mech fly, at least it will keep the robot cool on hot days :-$

I like especially the nice cockpits of your Compact Thunder and your Vertical Vulture and the smart way you´ve integrated these light bricks. *y*

I must admit I like EF 2006 Humans battle machines the most :-$ . But your alternates of these two really add a new look to the Robots army *wub* .

Great job, as always, Front *y*

Thank you all for comments. I think I will take a break now from posting alternatives, and come back with a big Golden City Tower *sweet*

Really neat!!! I might have to borrow one or two of your ideas. ;-)

That's what it's all about. Not many of my ideas can be said to be truly my own. I still need a cooler way to activate light bricks.

Let me know if you like some detailpictures, of a model taken apart. i still got all my alternatives put together. Not that I think I made something special :-$ but I think I spent some fun time trying to build something.

Btw. my weapons are the last things to be made, so the get to look like what parts are left. Should be fun with some unlimited moc'ing. *sweet*

cheers

I love seeing alternative designs, and these are some great ones. I think it's great building with a limited inventory, makes you more creative and think of new ways to do things. I learned so much just building alternates of set 4508 *sweet*
