Schroedinger Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 Hello, i play with the thought of getting my first modular building to start a little "city" (nothing spectacular) with maybe one train in the future, and so i wanted to ask if there are any recommendation's for starters. I saw that many old sets got really expansive and so i wanted to buy one that maybe gets pulled of the shelf's next. Or should i start with the Assembly Square? Quote
Bricked1980 Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 In my opinion, Assembly Square is a great one to go for if you can afford it. It's bigger than the others and gives the appearance of 3 buildings in one, so I think it works well almost as a sort of "Modular starter set". It's also a fabulous model and one of my favourites. If you're concerned about getting one that might not be around much longer then you might be best to go for Parisian Restaurant. That's also a great model but has been around since 2014, so is probably gonna be the next one to get the chop. Quote
paupadros Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 I personally have my modular collection on shelves. The last I've bought is Parisian Restaurant exactly for what @Bricked1980's said, didn't want to miss it before they retire it. Having siad that, the build feels a bit dated now and there's countless things they just wouldn't do right now. It's still marvellous to look at having it sitting next to DO is pretty cool. You know, PR's right opening and DO's shorter left building form a pretty nice architectural landscape. I don't own AS, but it's the one I've wanted since it came out, I'm dying to get my hands on it. To my eyes is the most complete modular, although at a cost. Honestly, my first one was DO and I'd totally recommend that one as a starter, but really it doesn't really matter which you choose because you'll just have to expand . I would say either Parisian Restaurant, Detective's Office or Assembly Square. Brick Bank and Downtown Diner, maybe for later Hope it helps Quote
Schroedinger Posted August 24, 2018 Author Posted August 24, 2018 Thanks for your answers, i will start with the restaurant and hopefully get the DO or AS later this year. Quote
adwind Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Guys, could someone experienced give me an advice? Just like a topic starter I'm looking to get my first modular and thanks to this topic I decided it's gonna be a PR. But since I'm trying to save a little bit family budget and don't drive my wife crazy - I'm going to get it like next summer or maybe May 2019. So here's is the question - since PR is the oldest one available on Lego store, do you think it will be still available at that time? Quote

When 2019's Modular is released, they'll probably retire the Restaurant. Quote

It will probably retire before that... last year the Palace Cinema retired in late November; its last availability on the LEGO Shop at Home website (US) was the first day or two of the Brick Friday sale, when it was marked down 20%. After that it was only available at a few LEGO Stores and the larger retailers with some stock left... who sold out pretty quickly. Quote
