To complement the main fortifications, a separate blockhouse was erected on one of the headlands. Corlander artillery and fortification engineering matched with brave Olean soldiers and gunners would prove a powerful combination.

 

 

The blockhouse had guns on three sides and firing positions for infantry, enabling it to offer fire against both naval and land based threats.
