Kai NRG Posted January 16, 2023 Author Posted January 16, 2023 (edited) These are unbelievable! I'm glad I'm a writer, not an artist. (Before you mention it... yes, I know AI can write, but I've never seen it compare to human writing the way these do to concept art.) Thanks for posting them here. I will at least add a link to this comment on the front page and maybe put some of the pictures there. Edit: well, I added them all. I couldn't pick Also, we had lost some of the ones we already had. jtooker Posted January 19, 2023 Posted January 19, 2023 Those are some of the more impressive AI generated images. Thank you for sharing. And how do we know Kai NRG had not been an AI all this time... Quote
Gideon Posted January 19, 2023 Posted January 19, 2023 Thanks! I'm happy if they can be of use For pictures to be included in the front page, I do however think that they maybe should be hosted somewhere else. Not sure about the longevity of direct links to the Midjourney Discord. I could put the ones we want to have there on my Flickr account instead so they can be linked more "permantently" from there, or at least save them to be able to do that in the future in case the URLs break. I've continued to play a bit with Midjourney (right now Rakath Mountain settlements , but I created a separate thread for Kaliphlin concept art now: I'm not going to keep my (too expensive) Midjourney unlimited generation subscription for very long, so if you have any more requests for concept art (right now my imagination is a limiting factor) please fire away! (other guilds' settings would also be fun to play with) Quote

Sounds good. I can also host them on Bricksafe if you don't want them on your Flickr. I'll wait until we've run through other folks ideas here in case there's any we want to add. Quote

But would be nice to have them hosted somewhere more permanent than Discord! My brother has been using Playground AI btw for free and (although he's not really been using it for this kind of thing) I'd say results are comparable. Might be worth a try when you have time! Quote

I'll download them and upload to Flickr just in case then. Quote
jtooker Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Here is the first draft of the detailed Book IV Kaliphlin map: https://jtooker.com/files/BookIV_Kaliphlin_2025-09-25_draft.pdf (4MB) It may take a bit to load and render. You can search for text in the map. It works best if you zoom in. I plan to do an overview map as well once this one is done. C&C are desired. Quote

I have not had time to review it all, but a minor spelling correction is that the major river flowing to the sea by Barqa is called the Arkbri river. Based on how the Arkbri river has been described over the years since the original maps were made, it would actually not be bad to draw it quite wide on the maps. I think it probably is the largest river in Historica, fed by tributaries both from the snowy mountains of Mitgardia as well as a large part of the northern Rakath mountains. Quote

I had looked into trying to make a map like that, but alas, I lack the skill. I'm super happy you made it, and that it looks so good! I was thinking a rasterized map, but the vectored map you made is even better! Great job! I would love to see the full world map when you are done. You have my vote for "Historica Cartographer"! Let me know if the river should be wider (it looks quite wide now when zoomed in, but not when zoomed out). I placed Khadira and Estolad based on these descriptions in the forum: Quote on the crest of a hill, high up in the Rakath mountains. Beneath it, clustered within a small vale, sat the small village of Estolad Quote Khadira is a once small town on the coast near the Nocturnus border Khadira is a settlement in the far east of Kaliphlin. Where a river flows into the sea very close to the borders of Nocturnas. 9 hours ago, Grover said: I would love to see the full world map when you are done. Thank you for the vote of confidence! I can't see having time to do a detailed one like this for all of Historica, but we'll see. Depending on how long the 'high level' map of Kaliphlin goes, I might try to put out one for all of Historica. Updated version of the map: BookIV_Kaliphlin_2025-09-28_draft.pdf (4 MB) C&C are desired. Quote
